Re: India Tour of England 2011
Fayz, I agree with a lot of what you said there - stubborn is the right word here - but the Aussies were even more arrogant IMO. Look at the likes of Steve and Mark Waugh, Ponting, Symonds, Warne and Hayden. I only liked Gilchrist. He was a gentleman.
I admire the all-conquering West Indies sides of the late 70s-late 80s. Simply awe-inspiring stuff... you look at Viv Richards, Greenidge, Clive Lloyd, Haynes, Holding, Marshall, Garner, Roberts, Ambrose etc. There was an aura about them. But despite all that more often than not they played the game in the right spirit.
The difference between Windies and Aussies was that Windies knew where the pride turned into arrogance. You had to bring your A+ game and still hope that you get lucky enough to win against these two A teams of their era.
This Indian team has all the ingredients of arrogance and cockiness but all it has brought here is embarrassment to the number one status.
I’m sure they are going to have a number of excuses now including Zak missing, umpiring etc but the bottom line is that their #1 batting couldn’t save them a test match (series), let alone win it.

Any team which depends on only one bowler cannot claim to be number 1. Previous number ones i.e. windies and Aussies had depth and plenty of backup talent. India has a superb batting line up but their bowling is club standard.

England Wins Comprehensively
Broad Should be the Mom
India's reign as World's No1 Test Team will end at the end of this series
Re: India Tour of England 2011
It was bound to Happen, India is Finally playing over sea's. The way India played against WI, I knew exactly what was coming for them in England.
Re: India Tour of England 2011
I always knew that India would struggle in England
Good batting alone is not enough to win in the swinging and seaming conditions in England. You need good pacers too and Zaheer (who is injured) apart the current indian seam attack is mediocre. Ishant is too inconsistent. PK is inexperienced at this level. You need atleast 2 or 3 Zaheers to do well here
Sri Lanka had the same problem. Their batting was okish except for one innings but they lacked a potent pace/seam attack
That being said this English attack is not lethal by any means. It is not more than decent. For starters they lack serious pace. The same seamers I can almost guarantee you would not be so effective on the slow sub-continental and Gulf pitches. But Anderson and co. know how to make the best use of seaming conditions in England
With Pakistan it is the exact opposite. Our seamers/pacers have always performed brilliantly in England but our woeful batting is what lets us down badly time and again. Even during the last series in 2010 both Asif and Aamir troubled all the English batsmen but our pathetic batsmen did not sufficiently back them up.
Re: India Tour of England 2011
Asif bhai still i believe we did well last summer by winning two matches though our batting sucked big time
Re: India Tour of England 2011
319 is the highest margin of victory in tests by any team after conceding a first innings lead
Re: India Tour of England 2011
Asif Bahi, do u play cricket at any level yourself ? County or league cricket. ur location : Surrey England sounds very appealing.
Re: India Tour of England 2011
I must say the itinerary is very harsh on the visitors (4 tests in 31 days is a bit excessive). BCCI and ECB must take equal blame as both must have agreed to the schedule

That leaves you with absolutely no rest in between tests. Pakistan’s itinerary last summer was equally bad.

Played cricket at school and college level in Pakistan. Now just follow the sport.

Indian players HAVE to play in IPL and cannot opt out at all. This is why their schedule otherwise is too congested.

Re: India Tour of England 2011
DAMMIT! I was out of town all weekend enjoying this lovely weather, missed almost all of the action but the scoreboard says it all.
Besides the missing Viru, Zak, Gambhir, fatigued or unprepared players blah blah blah... the point is that England has played very well. Broad was technically fighting for his place with both Bresnan and Tremlett performing well but Broad's performance has been great. He is finally showing signs that he does have potential that everyone gave him credit for but he never showed enough of it. Similarly Ian Bell has stepped his game up.
If India and England both continue to perform like they have in this series..then England deserves to take over the #1 rank from India. This only reinforces my faith in the rankings. England has been performing well for the last 12-15 months and the rankings have shown that with them steadily rising up. Now that they are #3 (just one point behind #2) and if they beat the #1 team by a margin of 2 tests, they deserve it.
It's foolish to constantly compare current top teams with the dominating Aussie and WI teams of the past. None of the current top teams (India, SA and Eng) are thaaat far ahead of the pack like Aus and WI was. Is it soo hard to comprehend that #1 means you are currently better than the rest, not that you are SIGNIFICANTLY better than the rest?
Heres hoping for better performances from India next test. Come on Sehwag!!
Also I am getting sick of all this 100 100s SRT talk. This is a team game!!!!
Re: India Tour of England 2011
India's main problem has always been their weak pace attack. Injuries, fitness problems happen on every tour but they simply do not have good back up talent or depth in the pace department. Once Zaheer got injured, the rest of the seam attack was quickly found out (except for the odd good session with the ball). Besides one Zaheer is not enough on such testing tours. You need atleast 3 really good seamers in the side at any one time. England on the other hand have two good back-up bowlers in Bresnan and Finn (besides Broad, Anderson and Tremlett).
Also Sehwag's replacement Mukund has been a total failure. This series was not the time for experimentation

Yes, those guys were the best - they had fun while winning.
