India Tour of England 2011

Re: India Tour of England 2011

There was an occasion with 6 wickets down, Tendulkar lofted a spinner to I think deep long leg. K. Petersen gave it a hearty chase, and narrowly missed making the catch. That kind of summed it up - in addition to the difference in the skill levels under English conditions, the hunger and intensity was highly commendable on the part of the English. That kind of effort at that stage of the match said it all.

Well played England. Losing to a better team is OK.

By the way, Sreesanth, who up to this point, had not been dismissed in a Test match for last 7 months, finally succumbed in the 2nd inning, thus ending his marvellous streak.

One thing that still puzzles me - how come India lost when Sachin did not score a century!

Re: India Tour of England 2011

India's bowling has always been much weaker than their batting. The superb batting usually makes up (and more) for the bowling. Looks like the batting hasnt come together this series so far.

I don't think the Indian bowlers are aaas bad as most people think. The team did win a lot of games in the last 2 years.. the bowlers were obviously taking 20 wks, no?

But yeah, the seam attack is overdependent on Zak. The talent is obviously there.. the 3 young guys had England 120/8 on day one. but they did not have Zak on their side supporting and guiding them when they were not bowling well.

India needs a good fast bowling coach.

**BCCI asks England to play the next two test matches in India

**Nottinghamshire, UK. With India losing the first test match at Lords and on the verge of defeat in the second one at Trent Bridge, BCCI has requested England Cricket Board (ECB) to shift the remaining two test matches to India in the “spirit of the game”.

In a meeting that took place during the tea break on the fourth day of second test match, BCCI officials requested ECB representatives to convince their players to travel to India to finish off the Pataudi Trophy, which consists of four test matches.

“They asked us to respect the spirit of the game,” an ECB official confirmed to Faking News, “They told as that even if India won the remaining two matches on flat and turning wickets back in India, England won’t be losing the series, hence it was a fair deal.”

Apparently Harbhajan Singh had asked BCCI to shift the remaining matches to India as soon as possible after he developed an upset stomach due to bad quality of Tandoori Chicken in England.

BCCI hopes to soothe flaring tempers of Indian fans who blame the board for overburdening the cricketers with a hectic schedule packed with random tours and IPL.
Since Dhoni’s decision of withdrawing appeal on Ian Bell’s run out had soothed the flaring tempers of English fans, BCCI asked the ECB to cooperate and reciprocate.

“They have asked for quid pro quo,” the ECB official conceded.
ECB official refused to confirm but sources inform that BCCI had also offered to “adjust” IPL dates to accommodate any professional Twenty20 league that ECB may start in the future.

With most of the English players on field trying to bowl out India in the fourth innings, ECB couldn’t talk to the senior players but sources say that the board won’t find it easy to convince the players.

“Bowlers like Broad, Bresnan or Tremlett would never agree but Captain Strauss might like the idea,” the ECB official told Faking News, “Straus and Cook have struggled with the bat and they might like to get some runs on the board with some help from batsmen friendly wickets in India.”

ECB has reportedly delegated the job to Monty Panesar to talk to English team members. Panesar, a spinner of Indian origin, could be picked for the next two matches if England agrees to travel to India to finish Pataudi Trophy.

To silence criticism and divert attention from this apparent cop-out, BCCI has requested Kareena Kapoor, the putative daughter-in-law of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, to be present at stadiums for the next two matches if they are played in India, sources say.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Jokes apart this is what I've gathered from the reaction of many Indian commentators and even the captain Dhoni himself.

(Zaheer is injured, Harbhajan had a stomach injury, Gambhir is out, Sehwag isn't there, had to reshuffle the batting order, Dravid is opening, Laxman doesn't like the new ball etc. etc.) But England have also had injuries to Trott, Tremlett and Swann

True they have also praised England's performance in this series but it's always been punctuated by the aformentioned excuses.

Too many excuses, not enough game plans... The only game plan they seem to have is to attack Strauss which has actually worked

But where are the specific field settings for others? The setting up of batsmen as Raina and Yuvraj were set up..
Pietersen has been merrily coming down the pitch to the seamers but noone has really tried to test him with some short-pitched stuff

Duncan Fletcher of all people should know most of these English batsmen and their relative strengths and weaknesses, more than anybody else on the planet. Instead he has been thoroughly outplanned and outfoxed by Flower & Co.

If this was a Pakistani loss I would be saying the same thing.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Injuries are part of the game. Zaheer's injury is apparently due to lack of fitness (controllable). Dont know about Bajji's stomach problem. Gambhir injury occured in course of play - you put somen=one at forward short leg, things are bound to happen. Not sure why he was not wearing an elbow guard (esp when Mukund was wearing some sort of shin protection while playing in midoff).

as for team selection, in the absence of several batsmen, Kohli's omission appears glaring.

Lack of fitness is lack of professionalism. This is not the end of the world. Team can get back to basics, work harder, and strive to take back # 1 ranking.

There should be no sacred cows. whether it be Bajji or Dhoni, India shoul dbe ready to sit them down if they are not performing. Cliques should be discouraged and team spirit fostered.

Above all, accept losing graciously - stop making excuses. Everyone knows about injuries. No need to keep bringing it up.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

What a pathetic performance by No. 1 team having some legendary batsmen. Now England really deserve to be No. 1. :lajawab:
Its reminding me 6 test match series between India & Pak in 1982/83 which was won by Pakistan 3-0. On papers Indian team was very strong. But Imran Khan really crushed them by getting 40 wickets.
Same history going to be repeat here as Indian Top Batting Order one of the best batting order in Cricket world but still losing.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

This is what Ian Botham said a while ago
[TABLE]

India need to prove its Test status in England: Botham

London, May 26, (PTI) :

India achieved the numero uno Test status primarily by virtue of their triumphs at home but the forthcoming away series against England will be the real test for the visitors, said legendary cricketer Ian Botham.

“India are currently ranked No 1 in the world and they got there by playing some decent cricket, mainly at home. But when you consider that they have only beaten Bangladesh and New Zealand in their last six away trips, then you realise that they have got a bit to prove to people this summer,” Botham wrote in his column for Mirror newspaper.

The battle for Test supremacy begins this summer when world number one India face number three England in a four-match series starting July.

During the tour, India will play four Tests - the first of which starts at Lord’s on July 21 - five ODIs and a one-off Twenty20 match.

Botham also showed scant respect to ICC’s ranking system, and rated England as the best team in the longer version of the game at present.

"The England Test team is the best in world cricket and they will prove it beyond doubt this summer,
“Forget the rankings designed by men with computers who believe that logarithms can tell us who is playing the best cricket more accurately than we can see with our eyes,” the former English captain insisted.

**Same goes for England. Most likely they would be the new no.1 test team by the end of the series but England will also need to prove themselves in sub-continental conditions. Remember what happened to them in 2005 (lost 2-0 and that team under Michael Vaughan was better than this one) in Pakistan right after the Ashes euphoria and then their players started making excuses like fatigue and boredom

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Post match excuses were predictable. Funny how there were still 50s and 100s scored by Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar, Yuvraj...Maybe those should be overlooked

I want to see Sehwag showcase his master class footwork in seaming and swinging conditions. If he doesn't perform, let's use jetlag as an excuse

Raina and shortpitch deliveries are becoming a joke. Bring Kohli

Re: India Tour of England 2011

No amount of excuses can take away from the fact that India were on top and ended up losing by such a huge margin. I hope England gets crowned no. 1, they deserve it.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Its Pakistan vs England next year in UAE

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Its reminding me another Indian Batsman Kris Srikkanth. He was victim of Wasim Akram. Wasim Akram got him out 6th times in 7 innings of 4 test match. In Last inning Imran Khan got him out but Wasim took the catch.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Sehwag will score 200+ and lead India to victory in 3rd test. In the 4th Test, with a team effort, India will scrape past England to tie this series.

You heard it here first.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Its reminding me Arlo :cobra: Did he PM you above post ? :5:

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Expect Sachin to fire at Edgbaston (Birmingham). He looked good in the second innings at Trent Bridge

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Isn't Edgbaston also a seamer friendly track ?

I thought the only track for the Tests to suit India is "The Oval"

Re: India Tour of England 2011

Headingley in Leeds (Yorkshire) is more seamer-friendly. Edgbaston pitch is similar to Lord's. Conditions are traditionally batsman friendly and have seen some massive scores in the recent past.

Re: India Tour of England 2011

With Ehsan Bhai's hometown hosting the next match i expect him to observe 24/7 "ibadat" during Ramzan for India to lose the 3rd Test too :D

Re: India Tour of England 2011

English team's dynamics were working so well in last 2 games that even Zaheer and Sehwag would have not made much difference in first 2 games other than delaying the inevitable. India's strength is batting and their batting has to do 450+ score in first inning to make a match out of it....
