funnily enough, when the pandits were cleansed out from the valley literally overnight by the mullahs, this was not a “change of demographic” to our pakistani friends. change of demographic is when they talk of coming back to the land they grew up in? ok then…

But who all are going? certainly none of my relative will attempt such adventure, Pundas are not jews yet and we have no David Ben-gurion among us.

there is nothing to go back to. just publicity stunts by bjp and co. i was reading some ngo’s articles on non-religious schools started by gulf-returnee locals in jammu and kashmir. many of these remote villages don’t have any teachers left, they were traditionally from the hindu community. the few they have left have to be imported from the next village or filled by youth volunteers from as far as south india.

That is what I was thinking, first there is nothing left secondly what about protection in such residential area? Army cannot protect and Muslims will route pundas out again. In reality, in muslim psyche there is no punda in kashmir’s future.

In the Israel/Palestinian analogy, the Pandits are the Palestinians in this case. They should be permitted to resettle, prior to a plebiscite for the region’s future. India’s government limited the ability of Pandits to resettle in Kashmir in a failed bid to assuage the separatist movement.

Resettling Pandits is necessary, but building ghettos is not the way to do it. Ghettos just further the divide among the two religious groups.

Hindu Pandits should go re-settle with their brethren wherever there homes are. They are Kashmiris..and there shouldn’t be “separate” township.

Suddenly so much concern for the rights of Kashmiri Pundits (a pro Indian minority), yet no concern for the probably Anti-Indian majority who’s genuine right to self determination has been trounced upon by the Indian state and who (unlike the poor pandits) have to live under occupation.
As far as Pandits are concerned, one could argue that its the Indian states intransigence that undermined secular and pluralistic forces and empowered violent reactionary and sectarian forces, which ultimately resulted in Pandits being forced from their homes. When you refuse to acknowledge people rights, you invite a violent reaction. You continue such polices and then complain when the inevitable happens.
Pandits seem to be nothing more then a feeble attempt by Indians to regain the moral high ground.
Now sure, let the Pandits return to their homes… in fact, I wish all Hindus who left from any part of Pakistan would return home. But dont use the Pandits as an excuse to deny people their rights.

The Indian government has called for Qatar-based channel Al Jazeera to be taken off air for five days for recurrently showing the wrong map of India in various programs.
The channel will be suspended from April 22 to midnight of April 27 by the order of India’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
Reports suggested that parts of the map were displayed with Pakistan and the islands of Lakshdweep and Andaman & Nicobar were absent.
In its order, the Indian ministry said Al-Jazeera telecast news reports in 2013 and 2014 with incorrect graphical map of India. Sources said the Indian government had issued a show-cause notice to the channel last year over the same issue.
Al Jazeera responded by explaining that their maps were automatically generated by an internationally-known software used by global news providers. It assured the government that it took their concerns very seriously and all the India and Pakistan maps were being reviewed by them before being aired.
However, the information ministry along with an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) decided that the channel had violated the provisions of the programme code; thus, halting transmission for five days.

For the UN resolution around plebiscite to be implemented, Pakistan needs to completely vacate Pok. Unless that happens, one can keep crying “self determination”, but nothing’s actually going to happen.

The demilitarization of the entire region is an afterthought. India first has to recognize that Kashmir is not a part of India before we can move forward with a referendum.
Demilitarization hasnt occurred because neither side trusts the other. But there are mechanisms in place that can get around such problems. The UN for example can deploy peacekeeping forces. But here again, India would need to acknowledge that Kashmir is a disputed territory. But all this will be impossible so long as India insists that Kashmir is a part of India. Thats the stumbling block, not Pakistan’s soldiers.
