India suspects ISI involvement in Hrithik rumor.

India suspects ISI involvement

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, DEC. 27. Security officials monitoring the anti-India protests in Nepal suspect the hand of the Pakistani agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), in the tendentious stir, sparked by the alleged anti-Nepal remarks made by Hrithik.

The official view is that the film star is a private citizen and whether he made the remarks or not were not a matter of interest to the Government. Privately, there is unhappiness that the agitation has been allowed to acquire an anti-India character.

There is a sense of bafflement on the origin of the presumed remarks. The Ministry of External Affairs simply released a press note issued by the Embassy in Kathmandu, clarifying that as far as could be determined, the film star had not made any derogatory remarks. Internal security experts are not surprised that a protest of this kind has been cranked up. **Hrithik has become a key figure in the emerging divide in the Bollywood-underworld connections, and it is natural that the vastly-networked underworld would want to drag his name in a trumped-up controversy. **

Those who keep track of the ISI activities in Nepal believe it has penetrated frontal organisations of the Left, some of which are in the forefront of the anti-Hrithik, anti-India agitation. Intelligence sources believe that these frontal organisations have allowed themselves to be used to print and distribute fake Indian currency.

Security officials have been unhappy for long over the nature of cooperation from the Nepalese authorities, even after the Kathmandu-Kandahar hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight last year. It is the assumption here that the Pakistani embassy in Kathmandu is the hub of ISI activities.

The Indian expression of concern has been given mere lip service, as far as New Delhi is concerned. In fact, the Nepalese authorities have invariably given the very correct but unhelpful answer: ``Bring us the pinpointed information and we will move against the ISI.‘’

Attempts to set up a joint working group of security experts have not taken off. Home Ministry officials are hoping that once a new security team is put in place in Kathmandu, it would be possible to have another round of dialogue at the Home Secretary level.

Public feels Hrithik episode ‘exaggerated’

Post Report

KATHMANDU, Dec 26 - The Capital remained tense today following a violent student protest over the derogatory remarks made by Bollywood film star Hrithik Roshan.

The protest took a nasty turn as Indian tourists were allegedly manhandled and shops owned by Nepalis of Indian origin and Indians were vandalised by the angry mobs in different parts of the capital. Vehicles with Indian number plates were also reportedly smashed and a police vehicle was set into fire.

How do the locals feel about it?

“This violence is not good,” said Santosh Awale a businessman from Baneshwore. “We should ban all his movies, that’s all right. But I feel that the public has over reacted to the situation,” he said.

Shyam Khadka, who looks after the management of Mulyankan monthly, a left leaning magazine, feels that the violent public reaction was not only due to what the film star allegedly said. " It is more against the government not reacting over something that has hurt the national sentiment."

“People are just making mountain out of a mole hill. It is not logical, that innocent people are being beaten because of a remark made by someone,” said Yanta K Tamang, a student from Patan.

"The actor should have been aware of the impact his statement would make. He should have known that he has a strong fan following over here too. That remark was very irresponsible.

But so were the violent reaction of the public. We should have demanded apology from the actor through proper channel," said Ram Bahadur Budhathoki, a local resident of Bouddha.

Sapana Sunwar, a working woman said that it was foolish that we were destroying our properties just because someone said something. “Whatever we do out here Hrithik is not going to see it, so why are we destroying our own things and killing our people?” she questioned.

A ten-year old girl, Maiya Thapa said, “Eventhough he said those things we should not get angry. We have to tell him lovingly that he should not say such things.”

Hrithik baffled over the remark

I love Nepal as much as I love India: Hrithik
By A Staff Reporter

MUMBAI: Thoroughly baffled about a controversy not of his making, Bollywood filmstar Hrithik Roshan on Wednesday denied having made any remarks on Nepal and its people and said he loved the country as much as he did India.

The 26-year-old actor also expressed remorse for the fatal shooting by the police on the Kathmandu streets of two students who were among the 5,000-strong crowd protesting against the non-existent'' remarks alleged to have been made to a TV channel. And since the remarks were non-existent, there was no question of tendering an apology, report agencies. **I challenge anyone to produce evidence or transcript of the interview from any TV channel in the world where I am supposed to have made the derogatory remarks,'' the actor said. He offered his ``heartfelt sympathies and condolence to the family of innocent people who have become victims of a dangerous game being perpetrated against me by some vested interests.''**

On being contacted at his Juhu home, where the security has been beefed up, Hrithik said, ``I have absolutely no idea about what could have sparked the incident. At first, when I read the news in a Mumbai daily paper which had reported that the people of Nepal were furious about my remarks, I thought it was a baseless rumour which would die a natural death. But then, unfortunately, matters escalated--with tragic consequences.''

The violent incident in Nepal was incited by a media report claiming that the actor had told a TV channel correspondent that ``the country and the people he hated the most are Nepal and the Nepalese''.

Hrithik emphasised that he had not given any such interview. In fact, I have only done six TV interviews in my life,'' he told The Times of India, adding,The first one was for Star News around January 25 following the attempt on the life of my father (Rakesh Roshan). Then there was an interview for Good Morning India on the launch of Subhash Ghai's film Yaadein, besides interviews for the promos of my films Fiza and Mission Kashmir. I also appeared on Simi Garewal's show. And I have been interviewed for Karan Thapar's Face to Face which is scheduled for telecast in the first week of January.

All the videotapes of the interviews can be cross-checked. I have never ever said a single word on Nepal and its people,'' he asserted. In fact, ever since my schooldays, I have longed to visit Kathmandu for a holiday. I love Nepal and its people as much as I love India and its people.''

Two of the Roshans' household staffers--Prem Singh Negi (50) and Bhupraj Regni (30)--are from Nepal. Prem Singh has been my most trusted help. He has been with the family for three decades and, like a second dad, he has brought me up with boundless love and affection,'' Hrithik said. And Bhupi has been like a brother. When we were kids, we'd play cricket and football and learn English together.''

On being asked about his view that the incident had been motivated by vested interests'', the actor responded,I cannot help feeling that there's a bid to tarnish my image. Where the report originated from and why is a mystery to me. How could any remarks have been ascribed to me without their being authenticated? I am hundred per cent apolitical. I am deeply hurt that I have been pushed into a controversy.''

Added Hrithik, ``I feel helpless because I cannot even begin to trace the source of this unfortunate incident. Obviously, some hidden hand is responsible for ascribing insensitive statements to me which are way beyond my wildest imagination.''

On the death of the two students who were shot in the melee, the actor said, ``It's tragic that two families have been hit by an avoidable tragedy. On my part, I appeal to the people of Nepal to discount unfounded, concocted stories. I offer my condolences to the bereaved families. I sincerely want to assure them that I will go to any lengths to help them in any way I can.''

I knew this charge would soon follow!

ZZ explain if the ISI were also behind the comments of Madhuri Dixit who not long ago called Nepal a part of India? She admitted she made this statement but apologised?

And some 30 years ago Dharmendra made similar disparaging remarks against Nepal - were the ISI behind that to?

Sad Indians!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/hehe.gif

The point is that the comments are not made at all. At least there are no transcripts or proof that any such comment is made.

Now suddenly these comments are given so much publicity and Hrithik's denials are ignored smacks conspiracy. People who are going all out to kill and burn govt. property should at least find out if comments are really made. they dont want to since they are maoists, essentially china backed and pak conducts anti-india operations for china in nepal.

The point is that the comments are not made at all. At least there are no transcripts or proof that any such comment is made.<

ANY TRANSCRIPTS THAT THE ISI STAGE THIS? NO!

And I repeat my earlier questions:-

Was the ISI also behind the comments of Madhuri Dixit who not long ago called Nepal a part of India? She admitted she made this statement but apologised?

And the comments some 30 years ago by Dharmendra disparaging Nepal?

Nepal seeks apology from Hrithik

Police out in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU: The city continued to remain tense for the third day on Wednesday as the Nepal government insisted that Indian film star Hrithik Roshan publicly apologise for his alleged derogatory remarks about the country and its people.

Angry youths, most of them students, barricaded major streets linking Kathmandu and its downtown areas. Anti-Indian sentiment was quite visible in the streets following Tuesday’s rioting and clashes in which four persons were killed and 30 injured.

Sources said mobs had attacked some tourists, particularly those from India. The police were put on high alert to prevent the law and order situation from going out of control.

``If the tense situation continues for another couple of hours, the government will have to impose curfew,‘’ a home ministry official said. The demand for Hrithik’s public apology came hours after clashes forced Nepal’s information and communication ministry to order all cinema halls not to show any movies with Hrithik Roshan as the star, unless the apology was issued.

Space Time Network, the Kathmandu Valley’s only independent cable television channel, was forced to close all its Indian channels after receiving threats from the agitating students. ``It is not only Hrithik Roshan who is against us (Nepalis), it is the whole of India and its bossy attitude we are protesting against,‘’ a stone-throwing protester said in Thapathali, which lies at the northern end of Kathmandu.

On Tuesday, angry students also tried to torch a cinema hall which was screening Hrithik’s latest film Mission Kashmir. They also blocked access to the theatre by burning tires on the approach road. A home ministry spokesman confirmed that the police had first fired some teargas shells and subsequently some blank bullets to disperse the unruly mob. ``The police had to open fire as students started attacking the police and tried to burn the movie hall,‘’ a police officer on duty told IANS.

The police also tried to prevent the angry students from handing over a protest letter to the Indian embassy in Kathmandu. After returning from the embassy, the students torched a police post and damaged several shops owned by Kashmiris in Thamel, a famous tourist hub in the heart of the city. The police had to lob dozens of teargas shells and fire in the air to disperse the crowd.

Meanwhile, the Indian Airlines flight operations in the Indo-Nepal sector have been affected by the turmoil. On Wednesday, the Varanasi-Kathmandu-Varanasi flight could not be operated as the night-halt crew in Kathmandu was not able to reach the Tribhuvan international airport becasue of disturbances in the city, IA sources said.

In Mumbai, the film industry has expressed shock at the strange turn of events and has termed the anti-Hrithik campaign as a conspiracy launched by vested interests.

Oh i love this, the ISI is blamed for every thing that goes wrong in India.
Heck ZZ please explain to me why Dixit said the same thing in 1999.
Was that also the ISI??
Read this i got from a nepali friend.

Hrithik's comments make Nepalis see red

KATHMANDU: Student activists Monday threatened to set fire to cinema halls
if they screened movies of Indian idol Hritihk Roshan, witnesses said
Monday.

Roshan, who became an overnight success after making his Hindi film debut in
a movie produced by his filmstar father Rakesh Roshan, incurred the
students' wrath by stating in an interview with the Star TV Network that he
"hated Nepal and the Nepalese people."

Members of the pro-left All Nepal National Free Students' Union (ANNFSU)
Monday staged a demonstration in Kathmandu carrying pictures of Hritihk.

An effigy of the star was later set on fire at the city's Law Campus,
witnesses said. Protesters were joined by school children who renounced
their idol and burnt his pictures and posters, the witnesses said.

Left-wing students have also allegedly threatened "to bury Hritihk alive if
he ever came to Nepal."

The protests, which were also held in other parts of the kingdom, mirror
similar outbursts several decades ago against Indian superstars Dharmendra
and Nanda. Their pictures have been banned in Nepal since they made
derogatory remarks against Nepal and the Nepalese people.

Dharmendra apologised many times for his comments, but his films are still
avoided in Nepal. In 1999 fellow Indian film star Madhuri Dixit also made
anti-Nepalese remarks. Later the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and Dixit
herself apologised.

CROIRE A L'INCROYABLE

You're wasting your time CM I asked ZZ the same question but as yet no answers. So why did Madhuri Dixit and Dharmendra among others make similar anti-Nepali remarks - was that to the ISI's fault?

Sad...very sad!

I dont know why the indians dont understand this, that a statement by an actor wont get ppl so mad that they would be ready to get killed. Its the treatment of Nepal by India for so long.

Exactly TAZZ its called the Indian pursuit of Hindu brotherhood!

is this supposed to be a joke? indian journalists are as dumb as it gets. first they post a b.s story about an official Pakistani site being hacked without investigations. now this.

even the indian govt was wise enough not to blame ISI right out on nepal issue. mind you they do blame ISI for every other thing. from train wrecks to day to day mishaps. all the killings in india by default are doings of ISI.

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

what a bunch of morons.

Sad cases Mundyaa true sad cases!

While everything Indian burns in Nepal they don't blame themselves but the good old ISI!

[This message has been edited by Malik73 (edited December 28, 2000).]

not sad yaar but amusing.

it speaks highly of the mental level of these stupid journalists, the govt of india and people who beleive these cooked stories.

on a plus note while ISI takes the blame for everything, the issues remain unsolved. thats good news no matter how we look at it. india, ruled by the caste worshipping hindus is like a dead headed skeleton covered up in a dirty stinking patchful blanket of secularism. slowly one after the other each patch is coming apart and the real skeleton of brahaman’s perverted clan is being exposed.

so the more news with ISI the better.

it speaks highly of the mental level of these stupid journalists, the govt of india and people who beleive these cooked stories.<

And I suppose people who post such stuff on this forum as well? ;)

Yes the ISI is a good diversion for a country ruled by a crooked Brahmin clique who can only mainatin any semblance of their 5000 year raj by blaming outsiders.

One asks was there an ISI 5000 years ago when the HINDU religion cam up with the GENOCIDAL CASTE SYSTEM?

Nepal govt condemns violence, warns against conspiracy
Friday, December29,2000
KATHMANDU: Nepal government tonight strongly condemned widespread violence and arson triggered in the country by Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan’s alleged remarks against the Himalayan kingdom and cautioned the people against conspiracy to fan communal hatred.
The council of ministers, in a statement, said the “unbridled spread of violence in the capital over an individual’s unsubstantiated and repeatedly denied remarks have led to attack and vandalisation of houses and business centres which is likely to harm social harmony in a multi-lingual and multi-ethnic country like ours.”
“The acts of violence and vandalism in the last two days are not fitting for the national dignity,” it said.
“For the sake of national dignity and self-respect, a spontaneous surge of awakening and alertness would be as much commendable as it would be important to guard onself against misleading propaganda and a conspiracy to cause loss of life and property and fan communal hatred in the country,” it added.

rivkz note when they condemn they don't mention the Indians by name. And when they talk about conspiracy they are not being as pathetic as the Indians, meaning they believe the conspiracy is Indian-orienated.

But tell us were the ISI also behind Madhuro and Damendra's disparging comments towards Nepal?

let me make my point on the hritik nepal issue .... please read carefully............ well to start with "i dont belive hritik made such a remark" he is a well brought up person and he will never say such a irresponsible thing.
now come to the protest in nepal.. thses protest are just a volcanic explosion of the anti indian feeling that was blowing inside the nepalese for long time.
last year when indian plane was hijacked from katmandu indians treated nepaleese like a pariah and suspended flights with nepal for more than six months . nepal was punished for nothing? there was a certain nepaleese business man travelling in the plane( i dont reccolect his name , i guess it was mr tamang or something) well the indian media without verifying the facts declared him to be one the hijackers .. and called him a smuggler .he was a inncocent passenger and his name was tarnished and nobody gave him an apology?
if you guys are watching zee news you will realise that zee tv has been again and again repeating that in the terai region of nepal the population of muslims has gone up to 10% and that there many madarsas comming up along this region? now look what zee tv is trying to do? its indirectly giving air to anti muslim flames and i wont be surprised if there are anti muslim riots in nepal in near future? such is the dity game played by zee tv
and lastly i guess it will not be long when bal thackray will ask indians to kick out all the nepali workers in bombay .perhaps there will be a tit for tact with manisha koirala.

[This message has been edited by kabir (edited December 29, 2000).]

Kabir I can't vouch for what Hrithik said or did not. But the Indian attitude towards Nepal which you described seems to be the main cause of these unprecedented outporing of Nepali hatred towards India.

Is their any neighbouring country that actually thinks good of India?
