Pakistanis & Indians highlight each others weaknesses, and somehow learn (between the bickering) each others point of view.
Despite the nationalism & patriotism, we are forced to confront & respond to these issues.
I think this rivilary is Good.

Malhot ji, I agree with you thats it's a good thing, however sometimes I have noticed, that the discussions get out of control, where it ends up in personal attacks and what not...Constructive arguments is always good, but arguing just for the sake of it, can not be productive. Just my nine cents...

And you also learn that a good majority of Pakis still have ZERO idea of India’s vastness and diversity…
This site has convinced me that the romantic notion that India-Pakistan problems is essentially caused by our Politicians and that the people of the two countries love each other - is absolutely misplaced.
To quote our friend Spocky :

this rivalry is the basis of the partition, deny it and you’ll have to unite agian PK and india:p …without this rivalry, there is no need for separating the two, very similar countries…

This is the thing that you don’t understand…similarities doesn’t mean that you should unite…UK & USA are very similar,should they unite???or Sweden & Norway are very similar ,should they unite…they have just learnt to live as independent civilized neighbours/countries…

They are not necessarily as “similar”, but are “familiar” with each other’s culture/values/society, they have some similarities but also have great amount of differences.

there are 2 aspects of the rivalry I like
1) when the nations are facing each other in cricket, much more fun to have representatives of 2 sides supporting their teams.
2) objective analysis from an outside perspective, ability to hear things as others across the border hear it.
what I dont like is that a few people setting the tone with their prejudiced and extreme remarks, or those flaming and using underhanded tactics just to spoil the atmosphere.

USA and UK are separated by an ocean:D reason enough to be two different countries untill plane was invented…means centuries of history of separation…
Norway and Sweden were part of two different kingdoms for centuries, reason enough to make two different countries, with two different kings as symbols of their kingdoms…but i fail to fin dthe ocean btw pak and india…and fail to find their kings…even more to find centuries of history of division…

if similarity was the only reason to unify and differences were the only reasons to seperate, the geography of the work would be very different.

exactly my point:) i think it is mostly historical reasons that shapes the world geography…but indo-pak historical reasons for divides are weaker (cause far younger) than those of unity, therefore the need for rivalry to “justify” partition even 59 years after!
