Why people from both the countries are more exited about matches between India- Pakistan. I don’t know about India, but see many people who say if Pakistan wins against India, they will offer this number of nawafil (extra prayers). If India is playing against a European country, people wish that European country win from India
I think the attitude is just not limited to games. People from both sides love to see defeat of the other country in any field
Whats your views about this attitude? Is it something positive?
Normally, our cultures say ‘PaRosiyon ke baRe haq hote hain - Neighbors got big rights’, but then we have this attitude.
Re: India Pakistan Matches and Traditional Rivalry
Yes. Else why else the desire to see the other country suffer? I am sure there r no such sentiments when it is Bangladesh or Sri Lanka for example playing against European countries.
Re: India Pakistan Matches and Traditional Rivalry
I remember many people saying during Asia cup finals Between Pakistan and Bengla Desh), jo bhi jeete ek hi baat hai. During World Cup Final, I heard people wishing for victory of Sri Lanka. I think Pakistanis can more relate to India rather than Sri Lanka, but again traditional rivalry play its part.
Whats the situation in Indi, if Pakistan is playing against a European country like 1992 World Cup?
Do people go for Mannat, etc during India-Pakistan matches?
Re: India Pakistan Matches and Traditional Rivalry
People go to temples to pray for an Indian victory in an Indo-Pak match. If it is an Pak-Lanka or a Pak-any other country match, guess who gets the Indian support ?:D

who is looking forward to have positive outcome...their politics thrive on rivalry rather than friendship on both sides of the border?
Re: India Pakistan Matches and Traditional Rivalry
So do you think common people on both sides of the border hate each other?
YES, they do [honestly speaking] because of the propaganda and manipulations by the politicians and 'the new kid on the block' [media] and this again are prevalent on BOTH sides of the border.

Do you think the propaganda is that strong to cater educated class too, who are otherwise very much secular and liberal towards other issues.

May be it is the secular and liberal nature of a segment of Indian middle class that opposes Pakistan the most. Don't get me wrong, when I was growing up in the south, the common perception of Pakistan among many educated people was that of an extremely religious and fundamentalist country who separated because they wanted to be superior and not equal to people of other religions (read hindus). So secular people would certainly not entertain the feelings of one religious community over the other. That perception can translate itself into dislike and hatred very easily.

No problem. I think Pakistan has been portrayed as a religiously fundamentalist country. There are people who don't like such things.
If you get chance to watch Pakistani TV channels, you will find similar stories like people in India. Its not closed society like Afghanistan.
Coming to topic, what makes Indian and Pakistanis friendly, when they meet each other in some third country?

When meeting in a different country, most people (mostly liberals) realize that they share a similar culture and I think that makes them friendly. :)
But I am still not sure that deeply religious people from different religions bond that much in the west either.
