Re: India Pakistan Matches and Traditional Rivalry
When meeting in a different country, most people (mostly liberals) realize that they share a similar culture and I think that makes them friendly. :)
But I am still not sure that deeply religious people from different religions bond that much in the west either.
That means people leave their base (homeland). but don't leave their bias.
Re: India Pakistan Matches and Traditional Rivalry
Why is it not healthy competition? Are we killing each other over cricket? We have witnessed some extremely violent riots in soccer and hockey tournaments in the western world, now that is what I would classify as unhealthy and extremist. As long as no one's being harmed, it's all good, it's okay to be so obsessed with the sport.
Also, what's with the generalization that religious people don't integrate well in the west? The radicals don't, whatever country or religion they may belong to, but sane people irrespective of their faith get along very well with each other.

It is not healthy because it is not just sports. There is an political thread that run through it too. Who said nobody will be harmed? What about a mob stoning an Indian player's house because he did not hit enough runs against a Pakistani bowler ?
Not saying that religious people don't integrate well in the west. But I am speaking from my experience when I say that deeply religious people of different faiths from the subcontinent do not get chummy with each other. They may be polite to each other but good friends ? Not sure. Most of my good friends from different faiths are liberals. We maintain that good relationship by not talking about religion but we do discuss cultural practices. That is also what I have observed about other desis here too.
Re: India Pakistan Matches and Traditional Rivalry
what about the incident of stoning Indian batsman referred in post 23. Don’t Pakistanis get more embarrassed, when Pakistani team return home after losing series to India?
Re: India Pakistan Matches and Traditional Rivalry
Which batsman was that??
And then again Extremists are every where......Its just a sports so lets just enjoy and have fun
I don't remember which tournament, but during an India-Pakistan match probably at Banglore, crowd thrown empty bottles on Pakistani fielders. Has this happened to anyother team playing in India?
