India named top tennis team in Asia

:k: :k:

KOLKATA: India has yet again been named as the number one Asian team in tennis for 2002, according to All India Tennis Federation secretary general Anil Khanna.

**

India, enjoying the coveted status for the past few years from the Asian Tennis Federation, were selected for the honour for the excellent performance of the men’s and women’s teams.**

“If one includes points given by the ATF for wheelchair tennis then Japan edges past India. But excluding the points given for this variety of the game, which we do not play, we are ranked number one,” Khanna said.

“This is a great honour for us,” he said. Forty three countries of the continent are members of the Asian Tennis Federation

wow :k:

But I don't think too many Asian countries play serious tennis do they? Philippines may be?

On a even lighter note, just like the football team set out to avenge for the cricketers, will the kabaddi or badminton team set out to avenge this great injustice?

Congratulations to Leander Paes & Mahesh Bhupathi. :)

Congrats…:k:

WoW! That is cool!

Good job, considering that their population is bigger than 12 or 13 Asian countries combined.

^ So is Pakistan's population - pretty fertile populace these Indian subcontinental types. Good job but as you said, we could do a lot better

Yeah but the population of India is 7 times as much.
They are expected to produce atleast someone for each sport.

Has it ever occured to you that Population of Pakistan is 20 times more than Switzerland but still pakistan has not produced a Single Tennis player of the caliber of Marc Rosset or Martina Hingis.

Please stop using your stup!d logic.

yaar big deal. acording to PCB, Pakistan is the # 1 team in the world.

Yup - Only difference is ATF stands for Asian Tennis Federation & PCB stands for PAKISTAN Cricket Board.

And china should be all sports world champions :hehe:

If you take a look at the tally of medals in summer olympics, you will se China was among the top nations to win medals.

No I said ** Champions** of ** all ** games including soccer and cricket ;)

just to be equitable from now shall we propose that medals be assigned rather than having to be played for? in proportion to population ofcourse

No country can be champions of all games, but if you have the population of size of 1 billion people, you should excel in most games in world of sports

India on the other hand only have world class teams in cricket, hockey and tennis while they lack other skills.

China on the other hand, with the exception of cricket and hockey are one of the top sports nation, ranging from individual sports to even qualifying for WC 2002 in Korea/Japan.
