India successfully launched its 16th remote-sensing satellite Oceansat-2 and six nano European satellites in 1,200 seconds with the help of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV- C-14) from Sriharikota on Wednesday
The launch was carried out as per schedule at 11.51 am and ended at 12.06 pm.
The 44.4-metre tall, 230-tonne Indian rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) freed itself from the launch pad at the spaceport and lifted itself up, lugging the 960-kg Oceansat-2 and the six nano satellites all together weighing 20 kg.
In copybook style, the rocket first flung out Oceansat-2 at an altitude of 720 km above the earth in a sun-synchronous orbit (SSO), followed by the four nano satellites - also called Cubesats, each weighing one kg. The remaining two, each weighing eight kg, were attached to the rocket’s fourth stage.
Of the six nano satellites, four are from Germany, one is from Switzerland and one from Turkey. The seventh is a big one, India’s Oceansat-2 weighing 960 kg.
Soon after the satellites were put into orbit, Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) satellite tracking centres started monitoring them.

How many of those actually work or will they fall out of the sky like the other such monuments? Also good work on priorities there. Half of the population is living in abject poverty and you guys are dreaming of moon cheese.

Unnecessary comments...How can you prioratize what to be done or what not to be done. If you are a really good thinker, you would understand importance of science and technology. But it is veasy for you to throw some comments just b/c you are a jealous Pakistani....
It is not all about moon cheese bro...read the full story to know the purpose of sending the satellites.
And hey...atleast we are not living on foreign aid...

ISRO will be getting paid for putting up these satellites. ISRO gains valuable experience. And many of these satellites will gather data that will be useful to Indian citizens, both rich and poor.

atleast India is launching satellites in space
when was the last time that Pakistan accomplished something in the field of science and technology?

See I value human life. I value things like affordable health care services for all. I think providing all children with an education is the fundamental job of the government. If these things are not being achieved, stop wasting money on being Icarus.
The same applies to any government regardless of India or Pakistan.

How Noble.
Please tell me, you will not fund any scientific progress until all children are given food and education. What if that scientific progress emboldens children to become scientists or that scientific progress results in better food growth?
sometimes we do things to inspire people.
If you are against India launching satellites, then you must also be against Pakistani Missile tests since many children are hungry and lack education?
Sending up a bunch of satellites into space does not embolden anyone. The fact that you think that is asinine.
Yes I am. I am against any form of defense spending all together if our - sorry my people don't have basic health or education services.
Merc its rather simple with me. My morals aren't for sale unlike yours.
CM..do one thing. First you make all people rich.. then go for research in science and technology..Do not you see they are interconnected?....You are asking someone whether they have high school degree?....What have you studied?..I agree with you that spending too much money on defense is not good for our countries given the conditions we have.
Re: India makes a mark in space 7 Satellites in 1200 Seconds
Science and technology and its innovation are not inter-linked with basic social services. I fail to see how giving someone a primary education is linked with aerospace innovation. Its simply idiotic.
Lastly India has much bigger social problems to address when its wasting money on sending up satellites in 20 minutes.

Isn't ISRO's Antrix making money by launching satellites?? They are not doing it for free. And Oceansat's data will help the Indian Fishing industry.
ISRO is a little different from NASA. Since its inception it has been building and launching satellites that provide services like communication, broadcasting, meteorological services, tele-education and remote sensing. Most of their spending end up having a direct effect on the life of ordinary man in India.

Merc you open your mouth yet all that comes out is drivel. Go ahead and read my comments in Pak Affairs on curbing defense spending and wasting money on buying weapons we don't need. Dumbass.
Now the average man in India lives under a dollar a day, so how does a communication sat help him exactly? He gonna get on his cell phone and make a phone call worth a dollar?

Cell phone call costs have been driven so low in India that they cost paisas and not dollars. Is this because of ISRO's communication satellites, I don't know exactly.
But why do you not consider satellites like EDUSAT that helps to bring quality education to every nook and corner of India. Or for that matter weather satellites that help in predicting rainfall. That would help farmers right? And Ocean sat they say will help fishermen.
