**Quick answer is, in the same ways it helps an average American or a Brit or a German etc.
Long answer:
1) Cheaper personal communication
2) Better weather and ocean condition predictions
3) Navigation & tracking (eg Train/Bus positions and related eta adjustment)
4) Crop / pestillence monitoring
5) Better monitoring of borders as well as forests and mountains
The benefits are simply numerous.
I am a bit surprised that in this day and age somebody would even ask the question about utility of satellites to common man. In fact it is very foolish not have them and to question their utility

In India poverty is not based on $1 / day, per India govt. guidelines if you make rupees ~10 a day you above povetry line... Amazing how India reduces poverty :) And by their own report alomst 40 percent live in EXTREME poverty... ! AmaJing isn't it !!!!

As always Mo you are a great help. That 10 rupee a day figure. Is that even enough to buy 1 person food for a day? If not how the **** are they gonna benefit from 7 satellites?
How is this an "Indian" Achievement? Being an inhabitant of the land doesn't allow you to gloat. Tomorrow I can be Indian. You didnt contribute anything to this "achievement" along with 99.9999999999% of the population.
This is probably another reason why I hate patriotism because people somehow affiliate themselves with other people's achievements simply because they lived 1000km away but were still within the boundaries of the establishments rule.
Go do something productive and then gloat..
