Bringing some Taliban in to the power set up in afghanistan is just common sense.
But Pakistan needs to have a good relationship with the Tajik, Uzbek and Hazara leadership. Isn't it ironic that our heroes like Ghazanavi and Ghori are Tajik, and there culture influence on Pakistan has been tremendous. We need to ditch this Pashtun centric policy. The Pashtuns are actually are a minority in Afghanistan, and not the majority, as that ISI agent Hamid Mir would have us think.
Where was that common sense, when many people here were calling for obliterating Taliban. The problem with the US and Pakistan is that they think that the Taliban are some independent and well defined entity that can be vanquished. How wrong was everyone?
Pakhtuns are the majority in Afghanistan. When was the last credible census taken there? Not in the last 25 years. Non-Pakhtun out-migration alone has been higher and would tip the balance towards Pakhtuns.
Go ahead and ditch the policy. You are already hated by the widest cross-section of people in Afghanistan, ditching Pakhtuns will be another brilliant move. Mark these words: Afghanistan is a Pakhtun majority country which will be mostly governed by Pakhtuns in the near future.
Speaking of heroes, the mythmaking in Pakistan is rich. How ironic is it that most people think of themselves as some outside conquerers when the reality is that Pakistan is a nation of conquered peoples.
