I think Simon Katich is a much better player then Love, he gives Australia the extra bowling option too.

he gives bowling option that doesn't mean he plays better than Martin Love - have you seen triple ton by Martin Love in a domestic game recently? he averages in 40 by just playing 5 test game - and got the best first-class game record at the moment followed by Micheal Clarke i think
Simon Katich didn't start off too well against Zimbabwe but then did amazingly well taking 6 Wickets in the second match so i'm not entirely decided - i would say that definitely as the all-rounder it should be Andrew Symmonds who is included into the Test Side. I'm not too sure but possibly even Ian Harvey is an option - Harvey has not proven himself at Test level - he is a good batter but is suited to coming in down the order in a one-dayer and his medium pacers would be useless in a test match. His best bowling comes toward the middle/end of a one dayer where he takes the pace off the ball - particularly when the opposition is chasing - but oh well Simon Katich got his spot in the first test.

I think McGrath and Lee will probably return before the last test.

Dunno about Lee - Steven Waugh was very critical of Australian Selectors to bring Lee back into the side - Glen will missed only first two test games - i think Australians have a good lineup with Jason, Bichel, Bracken - and Steven Waugh can bowl too - so i don't feel Australia is short of calibre bowlers.

Australia are no short of world class batsmen as of now, but they are missing their 2 key fast bowlers, so their bowling is definitly weaker then before, I would prefer Katich over Love.
There is no doubt Martin Love is a much better batsman and can easily make into any other test team in the world.
damn the rain. I want to see the game. I am pleasantly surprised that uptil now the bowlers held a nice line and there was a good chance of Langer being gone except for Bucknor who is always sucking up to the Aussies.

Can somone explain to me in simple words why Chopra or Sehwag were selected over the in-form Sadagopan Ramesh?

i dont mind Sehwag, he is exciting to watch...i am quite sure that his time is going to come soon.

India won the Tass and Bowl first

Reminds me of another captain who did that at Gaba last yr. But his bowlers could bowl a little fast

FG, read my earlier post why Ramesh was dropped when he had just had a v good season.

Karina!!!, I was not surprised to see that...Ramesh is Horrible against fast bowlers(atleast as much as i remember at fast Aus pitches ) with his limited footwork....I remember him Facinga Torrid Over from Brett Lee at Les's debute...considering that its the first game of the season in Aus. but later in the season when wickets are going to behave a little different then i think he should get a chance.

Yeah and Akash Chopra is a model for how to play fast bowling....
there is obvious friction between the captain and the bowlers. everyone is arguing with ganguly regarding the field placements. few of the placements are simply waste of a fielder like mid-on where batsmen have hardly scored any runs. the most annoyed bowler so far is nehra. he is not at all happy with ganguly’s field placements and have asked him a few times to change them. but ganguly being the captain is having things his way.
aussies are 262/2, langer on 114 n.o and martin 34n.o
no very good bowling by india and very bad captaincy by ganguly. over-rate was slow aswell. overall a day india would like to forget. but then this is just the start. probably they'll have many more days to forget in the near future :p
I guess If AUS don’t lose more wickets they’ll surely try to bat out the whole day tomorrow to reach a score somewhere near 600 to put India in … even with a depleted attack they should able to bowl them out Twice in three days … well let’s see what is in there for India
Its definitly not Ganguly’s fault that he is blessed with such mediocore bowlers.
What can a captain do when your bowlers are bowling full and giving the Aussies easy runs.
