Only in India does the media write their team off **

It was a fantastic win for us, a big day not only for the team but also for all those first class cricketers back home, as winning is a habit. It not only instils confidence but also provides the self-belief which is the most important recipe for success.
It is very important for the team to perform overseas. Our performance over the last one-and-a-half years has been on the up outside India and we must keep it going. Touring Australia is always tough because they are the number one side in the world and because of the conditions.
They also deal with visitors strongly right from the day they land and I must say the media plays a key role in this. When teams from India tour there is also not much home support either.
It does not matter what we write but what makes us feel ashamed is that in no other country, no matter how good or bad the team may be, will they write their team off before their departure.
Adelaide is the best wicket in Australia. Steve won a good toss and since then it was an uphill task for us. But we did splendidly to get back into the game. Rahul and Laxman played on of the best knocks I have seen overseas for a long time and both seem to get better with every game. I am very happy for VVS. The Very, Very Special tag suits him and his success reminds everybody of what a mistake it was to leave him out of the World Cup side.
I don’t have words to describe Rahul. He is not only a great player but a big role model. His focus, and the way he prepares and does his job, are perfect lessons for all cricketers. My congratulations to him and I wish him much, much more success.
I am also happy for Ajit. This was a big tour as there were doubts about his ability as a Test bowler and this spell will instil self-belief in him. With Zaheer injured, he took up the responsibility and won the game for us.
The tour has gone well but we have two Tests left and need to keep up the good work to make this a big series. But for the time being let us celebrate this win.

This test has been a great win for India and I think cricket in general.
Obviously it is'nt good for the sport that the same team dominate everything for as long as the Aussies have.
A question to the public, has this loss shown the Aussies to have soft bowling? McGrath and Warne are on the way to retirement anyway, the bowlers they played in this test are the guys they have in the future +Bret Lee obviously (keep in mind Lee is prone to injury). Maybe the Aussies domination is finally coming to an end. Their batting is still rock solid, but maybe there is finally a weakness in the Aussie team........
^ Its not that the Australians haven't lost a test match in recent past. They have always bounced back, thanks to their grass roots cricket nursery which keeps on producing amazing cricketers. We should just wait and see how it goes for a while before writing an obituary for the Aus Cricket team.

Well when talking about bouncing back.In recent time they only lost insignificant matches of series. Previous 3 times when they were behind in a series one ended in draw and they lost 2.So obviously Hisotry is not on their side.
But if you are talking about Aussies cricket team in general then yes they have very strong system in place which will keep producing Great cricketters.
Don't get me wrong. I'd rather they lose this series, to teach them a lesson about arrogance. But I won't write them off so quickly, after losing just one test.
Great Win for India and congrats.
I just finished watching the complete recording and it was a treat for a fan. Dravid was @ his best.
I said it from the begining, if India wants any success down under, they need to forget about 10dulker and work around Dravid.
He played like a true batsman, and showed he is without any doubts The best in the Indian team.
I am utterly dissappointed in the Australians, their agressive attitude destroyed their chances of winning the match.
You can't simply win all the time batting agressively on detoriating pitches, they should have settled down and saved wickets after earlier losses.
But all credit to the Indians, they batted and bowled extremely well. And all credit should go to Dravid and Laxman for putting up an amazing performance.
But fans shouldn't aim high, Lee is coming back and he will definitly boost the Australian bowling though Gillespie is injured so it won't make a huge difference.
Australians are fighters and look for them to comeback strongly and take the series, McGill is a waste of a bowler, I say dump the fool and put Bracken, Williams, Bichel, Lee in the next game and bring the Indos back down to earth.
BTW - Just came back on popular demand, I was getting drowned by PMS from the Indians begging me to congratulate them.
So there you go. :)

I think if Gillespie misses out next 2 tests, it could be a blessing in disguise for Aussies.... if Lee is coming back.

??? how is it so?? Lee Has to come whether Gillespie was injured or not???
aussie bowlers just doesn't have enough talent to bother indian team. gillespie and his gangs of bowler won't even scare a mid level team like england. in cricinfo, some people are already talking about india being the second best team in the world. come on now, let's not get ahead of ourselves. let them face lee, but most importantly mcgrath and then pass out that sorta statement. although india deserved everything that happened to them in this series, you have to admit that current aussie bowling attack isn't even good enough to shine lee, mcgrath, and warnie's shoe.

I thought Xpress meant that Lee will come in and Gillespie got injured so the threat didn't "double" it evened out by one coming and other going. I think Gillespie didn't prove to be a threat to Indian batsmen in last few outings as much as Lee is.
India vs Aus A match is own.All guys(lax, dravid, agarkar, zaheer) in form are resting.
Australia A 52/0 (14.0 ov)
Tendu's first over is a beauty, it seems.
News for the day, Indians are being hammered by Aus A. Irfan Pathan lands on earth with a bump. After taking wickets at will in India and Pakistan he realises that his work has just started. Balaji doesn't land on earth cause he never left it.
And idiot shiv sainists dig up the pitch at Agra. I hope the old boys game goes through as scheduled.
Hople this performance helps in tonning down the rhetoric of Indian Media & Fans. One Test win in 25 years and they think of themselves as world champs. Ponting summed it up very well when he said 'Good Luck'.

These Shiv Sainiks are coward a-holes. Atleast the muslim fanatics have the courage to blow themselves up (not that I condone it). Saale, yeh so-called "Shiv Sainiks" ki aukaat itni hi hai... digging pitches... ransacking shops in Bombay... if they are so anti-Pak why dont they go to the LOC and fight the Mujahideen... I am sure they will pee in their pants at the thought of it......
Add some spice to the show, Gillespie aint lpaying int he next match ![]()
Gillespie ruled out of Melbourne Test
Wisden Cricinfo staff
December 19, 2003
In a hard blow to a team already wracked by injury, Jason Gillespie has been ruled out of the Boxing Day Test match between Australia and India in Melbourne. Gillespie, the most impressive of the Australian bowlers in this series, suffered an injury on the final day of the second Test, in Adelaide, and was unable to take the field after lunch on that day.
Errol Alcott, the physiotherapist of the Australian team, said, “Jason has strained his right groin and although the medical staff is confident it will resolve over the short term, we felt it was prudent for him to miss this Test match.”
“I’m pretty disappointed at missing this Test,” said Gillespie. "To play any match for Australia is a huge honour. I knew I was a chance of not playing but once you find out you won’t play it hits you harder than you realise. It’s now a case of getting things right for the rest of the summer as we have plenty of cricket left to play.
“I obviously won’t be out on the field with the lads in Melbourne but I’ll probably travel down there for treatment with Errol and be around the ground each day. So far I’m progressing well and I’m pleased with the improvement that’s occurred over the last few days.”
The Australian team missed three of their four first-choice bowlers during the first two Tests of this series – Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee were out injured while Shane Warne was serving a one-year ban for having taken a banned diuretic in January this year. Lee is expected to return for the Melbourne Test, but Gillespie’s injury will dampen some of Australia’s joy at his return.
why?
