I will NEVER understand the logic behind playing more than 4 regular bowlers in a test match. A team usually bowls 90 overs in a day. This means each bowler will bowl approx. 20+ overs in a day. Which isreally not asking much at this level. If your top FOUR choices can't do the job, what the hell would your FIFTH bowler do?.
For a test match, all u need is 6 Batsmen, 4 Bowlers and a Specialist Wicketkeeper.

Are you saying India don't have a test class wicket keeper?.
This must be because they have been playing Dravid as a wk in ODIs and not utilizing the opportunities to groom a full-time world-class keeper?.
[/QUOTE]
As of this moment. No
Their 3 wicket keeping options are Dravid, Patel, Dasgupta
I have seen Patel behind the stumps, and he is just inconsistent as Dravid, Dasgupta is a decent keeper but a horrible batsmen.
And dravid has done well in both depts when he is behind the stumps.
When you don't have single world class fast bowler in your lineup, then its wise to go with 5 bowlers.
The only team who has done well with 4 bowlers is Aus with McGrath, Lee, Gillespie and Warne.
And Indian bowling is obviously no where as good as the guys mentioned above.
Did you see the outcome when India went with 4 bowlers in the warmup games.
They will be thrashed all over the ground, playing 5 bowlers will take the pressure off the likes of Zaheer.
Playing a 7th batsmen won't do wonders, and India learned that during the New Zealand test series.

Same logic can be applied to the batting.
If your top 6 batsmen won't do anything, the 7th batsman isn't going to pull of a miracle.
The Indian bowling is the teams weakest point and they should concentrate on that dept more so then batting.
If DasGupta is a Decent Wicketkeeper then I am the fastest Bowler on the Planet. Dasgupta is a Horrible Wicketkeeper, Horrible batsman and even his name is horrible.

India should go in with 5 bowlers no doubt for the first test.
Ramesh has shown good form in the tour matches, he should open along Sehwag.
Keep your suggestions for paskistani team.Obviously you dont know anything about either cricket or Indian team.
Asking Dravid to keep wicket is in test match is dumbest idea I have ever heard.
Parthiv is a decent WK and moreover he batted well in practice matches(Beter than sehwag, ganguly etc). so obviously he will play.
India should go with 4 bowler and 6 batsmen.
Issue will come while picking 11th guy who has to be an openor .Either Sehwag or Akash.Sehwag has totally struggled in warmups where as Akash wasnt better but he had one fifty. But I think Indian managment will still persist with Sehwag.
by the way whatever they do,I will be suprised if Indian do anything better than Inning defeat.
F&B- Bhai kahiN aap ye soch ke to Parthiv ko nahin select kar rahe ho ki Shayad Australians ko uske Masoom bacche chehre pe raham aa jaye aur woh 1-2 test hameiN de DeiN ?
Yaad hain na jab tum chhote the to, tumhare gaoN me baRe laRke kaha karte the,Baccha samajh ke choR diya. Ponting Aisa nahiN bolega mere bhai.

are nahi ..bare zaalim hain woh log..
parthiv or no parthiv....its an inning defeat. ;)
i think it is plain stupidity to go into a match with less than five bowlers when you know that you are up against a formidable line up..not that fifth bowler would matter much..just that fifth bowler gives the captain more options to rotate....

It makes more sense if you know your batsmen are sturggling. If 4 bowlers cant do anything on Gabba then 5th will not do anything either
I think India should just forfeit the Australia series, come back and practise for the Paki tour. Better still, play a series with Bangladesh so that we go to Pak with high morale.

Plus the fact that India has three batsmen who combined can do the role of the fifth bowler. They are Sachin, Sehwag and Ganguly.

Well I dont like the Idea of using part time bowlers iin TEST matches.
If sanjay bangar was in team then he could have been useful..Alas....Indian selectors..5 WISE men..

Obviously you put up bunch of nonsense, and never know what you are talking about.
Have you ever seen the Australians.
Your so called pace bowlers will be butchered like little babies.
Dravid is equally as impressive behind the stumps as anybody else, Patel is a novice and you can't be picked for a squad for scoring a 50 against a first class team.
He still has many years to learn, I have seen him drop sitters, and the only reason he is there is because he is labeled as so called "future" of Indian cricket.
Nonetheless, no matter what combonitions, Indians will go with, they will be butchered, and a great joy for everyone. :)
