ok...so it is 100% going towards panama canal type arrangement..US financed and maintained panama canal for 80 years and spent over 30 billion US dollars....even in peace time they had 11000 soldiers there...Americans were more accommodating in beginning but gradually took full control of the canal and used to treat local Panamanians with contempt and it was a huge problem...until Carter struck a deal in 80s that US will hand over panama canal to panama by 1999 but treaty still gives the United States the right to intervene militarily to protect access to the canal....i can see so many similarities with gwadar.....shameful decision by Pakistani military establishment without considering all pros and cons...
I think the americans always had control of the canal (the whole monroe doctrine in play) but later on decided to give it up. Some sections still make a bruha here since chinese have been creeping there. In that sense, china is very absent from gawadar.
phoenixdesi could not help himself but derailed the thread to save indian appologists. This thread is not about lease/outsourcing of gawadar port but India's concern over China’s role in Gwadar. My point is, if poeple like phoenixdesi can come this thread and criticize own administration, why cant indian come and say that india's concern is insane. And, I think volume of trade between India and china is greater than volume of trade between china and pakistan.

So do you think the Shanghai Index is undervalued after the recent drop?
I know it is outsourced but which country outsources it national assets? and if it is true what you are saying, it is even worst....we let someone build a port in our country, on our land....and then let that country manage and run that port to serve its interests.....and what did we get out of it...and forget what we will get...it is against the very basic concept of national sovereignty....i mean i cant even imagine that china will let us build an asset base on its land and then manage it...are we doing it to tease india? lol
This is very similar to how the Brits entrenched themselves in the country after the Mughals let them in and everybody know what happened later. Hope History is not repeating itself here. Good luck to your country.

oh ok....so now it all PD fault...... hang PD till death...i never said that india concern is valid...i am saying ignore what they are saying....why is it even that important to us.......rehman malik our foreign affairs minister was interfering in their business on a petty issue of SRK by saying that SRK needs more protection...right? so what else do we expect them to say
and yeah if you push me against the wall, i believe from indian perspective their concern is valid....but of-course it is none of their business
and we obviously careless .... we can do whatever we want....we can chose to bed with USA and if they are not satisfying us enough, we can try Chinese.. hell, Chinese ginseng is pretty effective, last i heard ....
anyway all i am saying that it is a very very strategic port...a...fine if they financed it.....we will pay the interest on debt per terms...but leasing is a highly strategic issue....if we were supposed to lease it to china per project finance deal then why we gave it to Singaporean company at the first place....
and now why out-rightly lease it to china.....what are we getting out of it......did we discuss all pros and cons in national assembly....did we follow proper international leasing process.....were there any more bidders....did we chose the highest bidder....what is the duration lease? what will be the exit mechanism?
i dont see none of these details anywhere in our press...and no one seems to bother abt it..... ccoz China is our friend! what kind of idiots we are...lol...there is no friend in international politics....
was it a commercial decision or military decision...i just dont see any commercial angle shown by Pakistani govt......
and look at our masses.....india bashing at peak as always......what if these bloody Chinese refuse to leave this port? then what...
phoenixdesi](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/members/phoenixdesi.html) You have stated your main concern is that this was not done in the national interest. And you base this on what exactly? You make assumptions and not facts. Lets be clear of the facts. The Chinese company is a holding company, which means it manages the operations of the port. It does not own it. The Pakistani government pays it to manage the port. Nothing more. There are no Chinese military or naval troops or boats there. There certainly aren’t any Chinese engineers or intelligence officers. So whats the concern?
The Singapore company could not manage the port so they agreed to the hand over. If we speak in pure monetary terms. Can you point out a loss which the Pakistani government is incurring due to this change?
