India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Is this something for India to worry about?

India

**BANGALORE: India’s defence minister said Wednesday that New Delhi was concerned by Pakistan’s decision last month to transfer management of the strategically located deep-sea Gwadar port to China.
**
“In one sentence, it is a matter of concern for us,” A.K. Antony told reporters in Bangalore where he inaugurated the Indian air show. “My answer is very straightforward and simple.”

On January 30, Pakistan approved a deal transferring management of Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea from a Singapore company to China, which provided most of the funding to build the facility in the province of Balochistan.

When complete, Gwadar is expected to open up an energy and trade corridor from the Gulf, across Pakistan to western China.

China has been extending its influence with traditional allies of New Delhi around the Indian Ocean as well as in neighbouring Pakistan, where it is the country’s main arms supplier.

Beijing also funded a port in Sri Lanka and has been approached to help build a similar facility in Bangladesh.

A high-level Chinese delegation from Beijing is attending the Aero India show for the first time in a sign of improving relations between Asia’s two biggest countries, which renewed their military cooperation last September.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Had Pakistan shown concern on India's cooperation with Russia, all of Indians and our overly just and peace lover GS fellows would have flooded this thread with rants against our own administration.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Cry me river baby --- Sala 3rd borld country bhe bother hota hey...LOL....

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

yeah, trying to prove itself "Asian Tiger"

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

I think that it was probably in connection with the rare chinese delegation visit to an indian defense show, but it won't make an iota of a difference to china or pakistan. Now, America is another issue....

apnay masla apni lungi may rakhiye :chai:

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

It's basically a concern of western countries. Indians only speak ahead of those countries just to gain sympathy and political points from them.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Indians need to mind their own business.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

how is china going to open a corridor from gwadar to kashmir without any secure roads out of gwadar, thru a simmering balochistan? will the pakistani army secure a corridor for this? i doubt it.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Its commercial venture, it was with Singapore port authority, didnt work. So now the new lease holders. Lets see if we can create a new port to serve country and central asia!

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Thats the problem... Ambition flies high, but reality stays grounded. Until the regional situation improves, the port will not be able to fulfill its full potential.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

well i dont know if its ambition or posturing - it is obvious to everyone that the port will not be used for commercial purposes, not anytime in the near future. handing it off to the chinese only looks like adding to china's string of pearls, for use that is not commercial - spying, oil and gas exploration around the rann of kutch which is already unmarkable and a potential flare point.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

At the end of the day it shouldn't matter what the Indian Government thinks. We should divest ourselves of the notion that we must respond to everything India says or does. The current administrations response to the war mongering the Congress was involved in regarding its up coming elections is a perfect example. More so when the India media reported that the Indian military started the cross border violations first.

So let them scream and shout. We should just continue on with our own policies as we deem fit.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Let them worry.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Well, you build infrastructure for the future as much as the present. The commercial advantages can only accrue if there is port for such activity to take place.

For pakistan I think this has many advantages. Of course it has defense implication, having China in the area of sets the Indian presence. Pakistan has military disadvantage, Indian navy is much larger and Pakistan only has one (or two?) ports, so of course they would need another. Even if India isnt a threat, you must prepare for threats unseen and seen, so...

Also, there is great potential in the port. At some point the region will settle down, and things will look up again.

Perhaps its posturing.. But then Pakistan didnt just hand over the port to China, they had the Singapore company running first, which I suppose didnt work out. Plus, other neigbors of India have also had ports built by China.

In the end, alls fair in love and war, and if you can make a healthy buck on the side, well thats just the cherry on top isnt it..

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Jo bhonktay hain woh katatay naheen :) let them worry :p

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Of course India is concerned and hence support for BLA. I don’t blame India for doing so though. It is weaknesses in Pakistani defense and intelligence infrastructure that enables India to interfere in Baluchistan.

I think Pakistan should look after its interests, and Indians need to mind their own business. They should come out of this Cold War syndrome and focus on their own country, leave Pakistanis to deal with theirs so that the region as a whole can move forward. As compared to defence this port is more important for trade in the region.

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

Pakistanis are handing over their prime port to an international power and there is no shame, no remorse, no guilt, no worry whatsoever...i dont care if Chinese funded the port...they shd not and cannot manage and run it ..it is our port and we need to run and manage it.. PERIOD plus this is a very strategic port..even if it was a piece of crap strategically, we cannot let someone else manage it...do you guys have any idea the way Chinese manage stuff? i have seen it first hand..they will take complete control, will kick all major Pakistanis out and yes they are really arrogant and rude...

but hey we are more concerned abt bashing indians....how abt bashing pak govt for surrendering its sovereignty! why cant we focus on the real issue..why do we indulge in non issues....forget what india is saying....who cares...they will make a statement and we can give a shut up call....but talk abt china taking over our port....THAT IS THE REAL ISSUE....how come no one in pak talking abt it..no anchor, no politician, no army-man, no masses....what kind of idiot we are....what if we have given this port to USA..can you imagine the level of public reaction

India has never surrendered it sovereignty so blatantly to anyone .... indians shd be proud for this...they never let Russians run their ports or use their air bases....sach bolo sach .. we have been prostitutes of international powers from day one...remember 1960s when russian president warned to destroy pak because Pak was letting Americans fly their spy planes from Pak...

Re: India ‘concerned’ over China’s role in Gwadar

^ I say we give management of the whole country to China, forget about one port. We need arrogant, rude managers
