Incest in desi families?...I don't think so...the thought of it sickens me....must be a really sick ******* to commit such an act.
Good topic Gamma. It's indeed a very sensitive issue. I know at least TWO desi friends who were sexually molested by their family members. The guy was fondled by his father when he was 7-8 years old and the girl who is now in her early 30s was fondled (not rape) by her Khaaloo. She was 6 around the time.
These kind of behaviors are bound to happen in a sexually deprived society such as Pakistan and India. By the way, one of the above incidents took place in USA.
I would be very afraid of allowing my kids to spend sleep-overs or camping trips without my supervision. I just don't trust anybody when it comes to children.

This is sad but very true! I know a female friend who was raped by her mamoo in Pakistan. I know several other cases where girls were sexually harrassed by close male relatives…Pretty hard to imagine!

so many cases happen like that in society which are quite sexually deprived. Like in Saudi kingdom I know a family,in which brother and sister had a relation and then sister got pragnant as well....
it was sick to know.. and quite sad as well...
and in some desi families I know.. there are matters ( not affairs) going between cousins as well,.
its pretty much sick to know, thats why my parents and the whole family is quite strict with male/female get togehters and all the stuff..
Incest is usually a case of rape/molestation but in rare cases it's a case of mutual consent as well.
To say that such incest rapes happen due to the environment of a sexually deprived society is not true. There are no statistics or studies that show that the number of incest cases are higher in the so-called sexually suppressed societies. In fact, the number of cases reported in sexually liberated nations of the world are far more. It is mainly because in countries like Indo-Pak such incidences go on unreported.
In a broader view, incest rape is like any other rape case where the reason for such behavior is bad decisions and probably the incentive that one can get away with it. Being sexually suppressed can be part of the problem but certainly not the root cause. One might point out the recent Catholic priest scandals & say it's due to sexual suppression but you have to keep in mind that the percentage of such priests is minute compared to the total number of priests worldwide. Also, that the number of sexually active child molesters & rapists surpasses the few weirdoes who have sexual suppression along with a million other things wrong in their head.

The problem is even more serious in families where sex talk is forbidden. It's a shame that 99% of us find out about childbirth from our classmates. This should be taught to us by parents. Parents should also teach children about abnormal advances by ANYONE. We keep telling them not to talk to strangers ONLY. They should be made aware that if anyone touches them anywhere, it should be brought to the attention of the mother.
The long term effects of child abuse are horrifying. It leads not only to abnormal sexual life but the damage is apparent in almost every other aspect.
There was a major case of brother/sister incest in Islamabad a few years back. What a pity. They were so young too.
funguy your suggestion that incest is a trait of a sexually deprived society is probably not true. I believe that ** incest is a natural phenomena ** . It is very natural for a kid to feel sexually attracted to her/his uncle/aunt respectively and viceversa as often parental admiration turns into sexual facination.
One has to assert what are ones bounds... one has to restrain ones sexual energy to enforce what may be considered sexually desirable and what may be considered paternal love. emotions are very complex and volatile and without a right set of mind can stray (this is where meditation such as religion comes in) . Be it islam, christianity, hinduism, judism e.t.c all teach you this mental discipline that keeps your emotions in a healthy balance.

And I argue it doesn't matter. Families who are sexually open but parents are negligent of their children, will have such incidences go unnoticed just like in families where parents are of conservative views. In other words, if a society is consider to be sexually librated, sexually suppressing or neither, will have little effect on people praying on their own or others whenever they get a chance.
In any case, if parents are close to their children, not necessarily open about sex, such issues do get reported. It's not about what the children talk about with their parents, IMO it about; do the children or an adult victim has confidence in his/her parents or the society around to actually get it out in the open.
i don't think incest is a sexually deprived society thing. Think about it. After all, our parents grew up in that society as well, most of us did as well. Do we have incest tendencies? Do our parents? In most cases no. Also, the adults in this incest thing, are most likely married, and not getting sexual satisfaction from their marriages. Maybe they're sick in the head or something. Instead of liking women, they like kids. Its perversion like homosexuality, bestiality, etc.
It is not the societies fault, its the individuals who commits the crime. The society can be responsible if it doesn't work educate the masses, punish the culprits, etc ....
it defiantly exists but dunno about how big it's exposure is in desi society but it is there and a few people up there have stated personal incidents too.
Incest is sick, taboo and the biggest sin and we all agree but it also exists in our lives. Every boy at some point around his puberty is sexually attracted to his mother. It's natural and it's also mentioned in Oedhphius the King.
