I got my copy finally ![]()
I notice one thing; the copies availabe in Pakistan have a portrait of Mush in the Allama Iqbal sort of pose on the jacket. The one in the US is with the saluting portrait. I’m not sure what and why the difference, and which countries got which…?
I hope there’s no difference ala Stanley Wolpert; how during 80s a censored version of his book “Jinnah of Pakistan” was released in the country while the rest of the world got what he had actually written.
That sort of madness is unlikely now but i’d like to confirm…
And btw, all leading bookstores are almost running out of copies.
Re: 'In The Line Of Fire' (Merged)
the covers being different is not very uncommon

Shouldn't it be the other way around...since he is more stern, violent, ruthless, and autorcratic with the pakistani masses and opposite with anybody outside of pakistan...

So far as of Today 28th Sept. 2006 second best seller on Amazon the largest online bookseller and Run away hit in India.
Musharraf's book is runaway hit in India
Wednesday, 27 September , 2006, 17:32
New Delhi: Two days into its release, Pakistan President Pervez
Musharraf's autobiography has become a runaway hit here, thanks to the
controversy it generated because of his remarks on the Kargil conflict,
the Agra summit and India's nuclear programme.
In the Line of Fire is number two on the bestsellers list of
Amazon.Com, the biggest online store, and in India, the publishers
claim to have sold out the first consignment of 8,000 copies that
reached here on Tuesday.
"In the first go, we brought 8,000 copies but they have been sold out.
We have a repeat order for 4,000 copies, which will be available in
India by next week," said Rahul Srivastava of Simon & Schuster, the
publishers.
The book is creating waves on several online bookstores, emerging a
close second to Noam Chomsky's "Hegemony or Survival" which tops most
charts. On Amazon, it jumped to the second slot from number six, where
it was placed on Tuesday.
"Already all the top shots and policy-makers have placed orders for the
book. It will be very difficult to find it in the market," said Sharad
Mohan of West Land, one of the book's distributors here.
The English edition is priced at Rs 950. "Five thousand copies of the
Hindi edition will also be available here by next week and that is
being priced at Rs 395," said Srivastava.
"The demand is very huge for the book. Out of 50 copies stocked by us,
most have already been sold out," said a spokesperson of the Full
Circle store.
And the demand is not just from big metros -- there is also a rush for
the book in smaller cities like Ludhiana, Lucknow and Dehradun, said
Mohan.

Here is how musharraf sold his soul to the devil....
Pakistan rapped over detentions
Some of the detainees ended up in Guantanamo Bay
Pakistan has been accused of detaining hundreds of alleged terror suspects without legal process by human rights organisation Amnesty International. The group says some were tortured or otherwise ill-treated, others were sold to the US military, and others have vanished without trace.
Some of the missing, says Amnesty, were known al-Qaeda suspects, but others included women and children.
The report comes while the Pakistani leader is visiting the UK.
President Pervez Musharraf had earlier denounced a British Ministry of Defence (MoD) research paper that accused Pakistani security forces of indirectly helping al-Qaeda and the Afghan Taleban.
Enforced disappearances were almost unheard of in Pakistan before the start of the US-led war on terror
Angelika Pathak
Amnesty International
After two hours of talks with Prime Minister Tony Blair on Thursday, a UK government spokesman said Gen Musharraf had accepted assurances that the document did not represent government policy.
The accusations in Amnesty's report are based in part on testimony from former detainees at the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, who have since been released without charge. Evidence from the families of those who have disappeared was also used.
The report says the clandestine nature of the detentions means it is impossible to know how many are still being held in secret locations. The rights group called on Gen Musharraf to set up a central list of detainees to end the practice of illegal abduction. "Enforced disappearances were almost unheard of in Pakistan before the start of the US-led war on terror. Now they are a growing phenomenon, spreading beyond terror suspects," Amnesty researcher Angelika Pathak said.
'Recruiting sergeant'
In the MoD research paper denounced by the Pakistani leader, a researcher said Pakistan's intelligence service, ISI, had indirectly helped the Taleban and al-Qaeda.
There is perfect co-ordination going on
The document, leaked to the BBC, said the ISI, should be dismantled. It also said the UK went into Afghanistan "with its eyes closed", and revealed that a secret deal to extricate UK troops from Iraq so they could focus on Afghanistan failed when British military leaders were overruled. And it said the Iraq war had "acted as a recruiting sergeant for extremists across the Muslim world". An MoD spokesman said "the academic research notes quoted in no way represent the views of either the MoD or the government". British defence officials have said the paper was written by a junior official, that it was unfinished and had not been seen by anyone who actually makes government policy. Gen Musharraf, who met Tony Blair at his country residence, Chequers, told the BBC's Newsnight he was "fully satisfied" with Pakistan's co-operation in the fight against terrorism. "There is perfect co-ordination going on - intelligence and operational co-ordination at the strategic level, at the tactical level," he said. Gen Musharraf is due to speak at the Oxford University student union on Friday.

Many ill things were unheard in Pak before the glorious army took over the government every time...
Re: In The Line Of Fire
Babuji You couldn't resist! You can't be serious comparing MUSHARAFF with Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole Smith. Their four reasons to have their day in the media are very famous for brainless people.

the best pose however is when he is delivering a speech after kicking some extremist butt.

From Delhi to DC this is the book everyone is talking about, and wants to buy. Indian’s, army haters and self-exiled Pakistani politicians all loathe Musharraf but all are wanting to read this book. The more Musharraf-haters seeth at all the attention Musharraf sahib is getting the more one is emboldened to read the book of this true Pakistani hero. Long live Musharraf, and may he continue to rule and rule for many more years. :k:
I am not a great Musharraff admirer but the facts speak for themselves.
1) As for as his book is concerned, it has surpassed all estimates and imaginations. And the show has just started. Bottom line A BIG SUCCESS OF HISTORICAL PROPORTIONS.
2) Musharraff did an excellent job in the US media to promote Pakistan’s case about Talibaan and Alqaida and he successfully kicked Karzai’s behind by proving him clueless, ungrateful CIA agent confined to kabul.
Re: ‘In The Line Of Fire’ (Merged)
really? in both zia and benazirs eras, dissidents were tossed in jails without anyone even finding out where they were. I recall in mid 80’s when some jamati kuttay were picked up by military and could not be found for weeks..
Re: In The Line Of Fire
If you live in the US, you might be aware of how little coverage Pakistan (or for that matter even India) receive in the US media.
However, they are sure to report about Anna Nicole Smith ![]()

Re: 'In The Line Of Fire' (Merged)
I ordered mine from amazon.co.uk before the release date. However I got an e-mail from them yesterday that it will be delayed by 4 - 6 weeks !!! Must be selling well - doesnt help me though!
I think it was a great move by mushy - Pakistan's credibility was very low in the west prior to his visit and it was getting all the bad press (hudood laws, ball tampering, child kidnapping, terrorism, 7/7, 9/11, taliban, bin laden etc etc). This was a very good attampt at fighting back and although Mush's critics (certain media walas with other motives) are still there crticizing him, he has stricken a cord with the general public in the west. And he has got himself a few million in the process - fair play, better than building a palace from public funds in Raiwind or taking a 10-20% cut in every private transaction.
