…by the majority
sometimes Pakistan seems to be a bizarre blend of archaic and modern so would stoning be seen as an appropriate way of punishing somebody accused of being an adulterer or adulteress or blasphemy or any other sinful crime?
Re: In Pakistan is Stoning Seen as an Appropriate form of Punishment?
For adultery it is in islam that the punishment should be stoning. i know its just too painful to imagine but its their to keep us away from this crime.

If i recall it right, Stoning is for the person who commits adultery, and is was practiced by Jews as per their religious scripture.
Islam is crystal clear about it, it is Sura-e-Noor ( if i am right) where the punishment of the sin of Adultery is mentioned, it is said that the person should be flogged if he commit adultery while he is married... No where in Quran it is said to stone the person who commit such sin....
Yes there is one incident during the life of Prophet Mohammad (SAAW) where he ordered to stone a Jewish women ( if i recall it right) for adultery, the incident is like this that Jews knew that the women shall be stoned to death if processed by Jewish Shariah, so they came to Prophet (SAAW) because they knew Islam doesn't have such punishment, and Prophet (SAAW) ordered to stone her as per Jewish Laws...
Re: In Pakistan is Stoning Seen as an Appropriate form of Punishment?
so the holy quran doesn't mention stoning for any crime... interesting, and thanx for the clarification..
Re: In Pakistan is Stoning Seen as an Appropriate form of Punishment?
well in places like Egypt stoning for adultery and similar crimes on the sin scale are supported by the majority other than a small section of the youth so are Egyptians not following Islamic teachings in the proper way or are all of them misinformed? it looks like theocracy seems like the right way to go for Egypt looking at how religious the majority is and the way the protests are going

Only for adulterer/adulteress when the crime is actually proven (not just accused), the punishment should be carried out only when government is in full conformance of Islamic rules. As of now government/laws are nowhere close to Islamic rulings so the punishment should not be Islamic either. There is a lot that has to change before carrying out justice as per Islamic rulings.

its not for everyone. if i remember correctly, this punishment (rijam) is only for the partner in this act who is married. and it has to be proven as per law (not the law of Pakistan, but the law of shariah)... this is believed and agreed upon by all school of thoughts except those who do not follow any fiqh and are followers of so called "enlightened moderation". yes being a muslim we see it appropriate punishment, now this is different story that Pakistan does not have Shariah enforced as the law of the land, only very few laws are adopted. i will be in favor of making this part of our law.

Re: In Pakistan is Stoning Seen as an Appropriate form of Punishment?
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 50: Conditions, Number 885: Narrated Abu Huraira and Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani: A bedouin came to Allah’s Apostle and said, “O Allah’s apostle! I ask you by Allah to judge My case according to Allah’s Laws.” His opponent, who was more learned than he, said, “Yes, judge between us according to Allah’s Laws, and allow me to speak.” Allah’s Apostle said, “Speak.” He (i .e. the bedouin or the other man) said, “My son was working as a laborer for this (man) and he committed illegal sexual intercourse with his wife. The people told me that it was obligatory that my son should be stoned to death, so in lieu of that I ransomed my son by paying one hundred sheep and a slave girl. Then I asked the religious scholars about it, and they informed me that my son must be lashed one hundred lashes, and be exiled for one year, and the wife of this (man) must be stoned to death.” Allah’s Apostle said, “By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, I will judge between you according to Allah’s Laws. The slave-girl and the sheep are to be returned to you, your son is to receive a hundred lashes and be exiled for one year. You, Unais, go to the wife of this (man) and if she confesses her guilt, stone her to death.” Unais went to that woman next morning and she confessed. Allah’s Apostle ordered that she be stoned to death.[16]](Stoning - Wikipedia)
Re: In Pakistan is Stoning Seen as an Appropriate form of Punishment?
100 lashes for man and horrible death for woman. thats horrible and wrong.
Re: In Pakistan is Stoning Seen as an Appropriate form of Punishment?
Well anyone who has been lashed will know that most men will die before 40 lashes so either way neither death is easy.
100 lashes is more than enough to kill if done properly and besides I doubt they will be tickling with those lashes either.... even a simple rawhide one could flense a guy in 25 strokes.

you actually failed to understand. and probably you didnt read the other replies which already have stated this.
100 lashes for the unmarried, and stoning to death for the married.
