I'm really happy he's taking this stand. Yes, it's for votes, but I still like the move.
Though, we really need a national stand on gay marriage, because this is not something which should be left up to the States. It seems the Supreme Court is either waiting for the "perfect" case to take on or it's waiting for the media hype to decrease a bit, before they decide on a case.
Either way, I think gay people deserve the same rights/ benefits as all others when it comes to marriage.

I don't think it's necessarily for the votes, there are a lot of states that are very anti gay, so he would lose a lot of votes as well.

I think he said it out of pressure. 24 hours earlier, Vice President made a pro-gay marriage statement. Obama was put under spotlight and because he could not say otherwise, he had to agree with his VP

Alimony is not gender based .
Alimony law dictates that one spouse provides to the other in the event of divorce or legal separation. It is determined by the laws of the state where you live.
