When Ibn e Safi introduced Ali Imran for the first time, he was portrayed as ostensibly a moron. His face has a perpetual expression of ‘himaqat’. In the beginning of the series Imran is still learning–things like martial arts, pakistani bureaucracy etc etc unlike Mazhar Kalim’s or Safdar Shahin’s Imran, Ibne Safi’s Imran is not superhuman. Ibn e Safi’s Imran not only makes mistakes he also gets beaten up. Imran’s father is a govt bureaucrat (I think the head of intelligence) but the govt is supposed to be trying to establish a secret service. Imran becomes the head of this organization but his leadership is supposed to be a big secret. Apart from Imran, only two other people know of his position (actually 3, the third being a female, but Ibn e Safi kills her off). The other two are Imran’s friend and confidant, Black Zero, and another govt bureaucrat, Sir Sultan, who is supposed to work very closely with the secret service and who also happens to be Sir Rehman’s (Imran’s father) close friend. Not even Imran’s mother knows about this. Incidentally, Imran’s family is comprised of his parents and sister. His relationship with the females of his family is portrayed as the idyllic type we are used to watching in various PTV plays of the 80s** (which brings up another interesting topic to be discussed)**
Re: ~~ Imran Series ~~
You people are bad! What's next, discussion on Naunehal?
Safi's writing was far superior to those who, after Safi's death, shamelessly peddled Imran for their financial gains. I read the imposters' work first and later turned to Safi's books who was long dead by then. His character Imran was true to the times and the place he lived. A reader, a Pakistani reader could relate to Imran -- he was not some superman character or who'd had descended from another planet or a gunslinger as was portrayed by later Safi wannabes. Like a chameleon Imran would change personalities from an onion selling street vendor to some college kid dodging Sing He (sp?). I can't believe I am writing all this. Yes, Sing He -- or chacha sing he as Imran would call him. Who remembers that bugger? :D
Does anyone know how many novels Safi wrote? I am interested in Imran Series only. I wouldn't mind having them in my library.

The journalist.
Re: ~~ Imran Series ~~
Unfortunately, due to virtually non existent copy right laws in Pakistan, Ali Imran got abducted by a host of writers during the life of Ibn-e-Safi. Some of them were so shameless that they even used names similar to Ibn-e-Safi though Ibn-e-Safi declined any relation with them. Anyway, no other author even came close to the portrayal of Ali Imran as it was done by Ibn-e-Safi. Most of them turned him into an action packed Steven Segal or Arnold Schwarzenneger, or others made him into a sex-hungry James Bond.
Anyway, Ibn-e-Safi himself wrote over 100 of Imran series novels. These novels are still available but now there are lots of other means of entertainment (cable, internet, video games etc.) that people seldom read this stuff. Ibn-e-Safi is perhaps not recognized as a legitimate author by the “thaykaydaars” of urdu literature but this does not matter. He was one of the most popular of his times and was loved by a huge number of fans who were addicted to Jasoosi dunya, Imran series, and Col. Hameed/Fareedi.
Also, about four or five years ago I visited a website, which contained some great info about Ibn-e-Safi and his work. It was that website’s description of Ali Imran which made me buy Ibn-e-Safi’s novels. But now if you enter this URL in your browser, you end up with some web-hosting services provider. Any word on that?
Re: ~~ Imran Series ~~
Everybody in my house read Imran Series pretty religiously. All except me. I suck at reading urdu. I mean i can but at one page an hour. So its not very entertaining trying to read a novel in urdu. I hope someones taken the time to translate them to english!!

She was just a member of SS ![]()
I think it was Roshi, as Mirza sahab suggested.
Anyway, Ibne Safi was great writer in this field.
Re: ~~ Imran Series ~~
Yes, Mirza Ruswa and Code Red got it right: Roshi knew Imran was X2.
Julianna Fitzwater, the Swiss femme fatale, worked for the service.
I would love to read the banter between Imran and Xing/Sing(sp?) He; it was just brilliant! Xing/Sing was the kind of 'chacha' every nephew should have. :D
Re: ~~ Imran Series ~~
Why has everyone forgotton Joseph and Captain Fayyaz? Who can forget the fights between Joseph and Sulaiman. I have all of Imran series and Jasoosi dunya novels at hoem. Imran series had 116 novels and Jasoosi dunya had 126, last one being the two part series Sehrai dewana. Imrans series last novel was actually finished by his son as Ibn-e-safi died before finishing it. His son copied sections from some earlier novels and totally ruined the end of a 3 part series.
Re: ~~ Imran Series ~~
There were many interesting characters
Suleman being one, I liked the way he treated Imran, they way he used to make fun of him
In early days of Mazhar kaleem, he wrote good novels but gradually he got carried away and quality went down drastically.
It will be interesting to refresh memories, if someone can spare some time and give some introduction of the charactors in Imran Series by Ibne Safi
Like how he met Joseph and the other guy (Juana?) who used to live in that building ( I forgot the name)
What was the story of Roshi ? How she knew about Imran
Safdar was an important character in Ibne Safi's Imran Series but later on side lined by Mazhar kaleem ?
Was 'Tiger' orignal character in Imran Series or was added later on ?
What was the story of 'Juliana' how was the relationship between her and Imran. ( I hated the way she was portreyed by Mazhar kaleem )
Re: ~~ Imran Series ~~
Joseph was a prize fighter who worked for some one else. Imran went to another city to solve a case and defeated Joseph in a fight. I cant remember the name of that novel, but overall it was quite boring. Joseph only wanted to work with a man that can beat him in a fight, and as Imran beat him and his other boss Joseph came and lived with him. Imran liked Joseph because of his dog-like loyalty. Joseph's other requirement was six bottles daily that Imran provided.
Roshi was Imran's seretary when he refused to work for his dad and opened up his own private investigative agency.
Tiger is not an Ibn-e-safi character.
Juliana was a member of secret service and had a secret crush on Imran. She also believed that X-2, SS boss, was Imran.
Most of you have probably not heard of this but Ibn-e-safi also made a movie of two of his Imran Series characters. Zafar-ul-Mulk, the nawabzada, and Jameson (real name Jumman), his servant. The movie was called Dhamaka, dialogues were written by Haseena Moeen and Javed Sheikh acted as Zafer, and Jamshed Ansari was Jameson.

“ZAMEEN K BADAL” Was the best Novel in which Imran & Faridi appeared altogether. it was silver jubilee number of “Jasoosi duniya”.
