I hope the former. Consider this. Taliban and their fasadi khariji ideology and society, is NOT America’s problem. America’s invasion of Taliban government was not because they did not like Taliban. Americans care least about what Taliban do to the people and the country. After all, they do support similar pathetic society, Saudi.
America’s problem actually was foreigners in Afghanistan (and Pakistan FATA) who had taken refuge under Taliban, and planning attacks against American interests around the world. THAT is the reason America invaded Afghanistan.

America can therefore tolerate Taliban government if they agree to stop providing shelter to those who go against American interests. America will also leave in case it believes that such people working against its interests have become ineffective.
If either of this becomes true then America will have NO problem accepting Taliban.** America does not even need them to lay down arms**. And THAT’s what America wants to do now.

But contrary to America, Pakistan’s problem in this war is NOT foreign mufsideen rather the Taliban and their affiliates. Pakistan’s society has not been Taliban and affiliates, not their foreign allies. Taliban are Pakistan’s enemies, not America’s. Taliban have killed thousands of Pakistanis, not Americans. Taliban (and affiliates) want to control Pakistan, not America.

So while America can accept Taliban government, Pakistan CAN’T.

Conclusion: Imran can NOT argue that America’s talking to Taliban is a justification for his case of Pakistan starting similar talks with Taliban.

If America is not able to defeat Taliban what on earth makes you think Pakistan can?
