Imran Khan is really pacing up and pressure is increasing on Nawaz Sharif to leave his seat and resign as a PM of Pakistan. The situation is getting heaten up but in no way it’s helping out an average Pakistani.
Who do you really support? Do you think Imran Khan will really be able to bring change in this country? I have been watching the whole scenario on Express News live but I don’t see any improvement.
Re: Imran Khan vs. Nawaz Sharif: Whom are you supporting and why?
I support democracy not power politics. In that regard NS and IK are cut from the same cloth. In a parliamentary democracy no matter how fledgling the rule of law is most important. In this case the proper and constitutional method is to have a vote of no confidence, win it and dissolve the government. That is the law as per the Pakistani constitution. That is what I stand for and support.
Democracy has been hijacked in almost all places by special interest groups and sheeple who follow them. Even the best systems can be corrupted. Then there is meritocracy but talking about it may get me labelled as illuminati ;-)
Re: Imran Khan vs. Nawaz Sharif: Whom are you supporting and why?
Wasn't meritocracy the option utilised in Khalifa ar rashideen era? Or quite on those lines?
its a little different and has multiple definitions, one is closer to what you noted other suggests that you have to go above a certain bar to be able to vote etc.
I read something that I am pasting below. It has some issues and I can see how it can really worry people at large but some points that its raises are rather interesting. It was an interesting read. Although even for proponents of meritocracy, the question remains, how do you manage that without that in itself becoming another oligarchy with even less checks and balances.
"the challenge with democracy right now at large, although it has been around for ever is that it is really more of an oligarchy. A small, elite group govern in their own interests and take active steps to dupe the people, to provide misinformation and disinformation, to exploit the power of their office to disguise their many abuses. It is advantageous to them to maintain the people docile, unthinking, easily controlled, lacking initiative, incapable of resisting. It is the perfect instrument of control. The people, brainwashed by relentless propaganda about do not know how to see through the lies and being taken for a perpetual ride. Its viable when majority of citizens are highly capable, clever, and resourceful. At that point, democracy and meritocracy intersect and become synonymous. Until that point, the most meritorious people in society must be placed in charge"
May be different topic though, a thread on its own, less charged with ethnocentric political demigod worshipping
Re: Imran Khan vs. Nawaz Sharif: Whom are you supporting and why?
From being a supporter of IK, I have already started a personal protest against him for;
1) Having failed to deliver in KP
2) Trying to use extra constitutional means to remove a government
I have also realised that he does not really care about the people but is in it for himself and wants to grab power. The people are just a means to an end for him.
I am currently inclined towards PML N because they have shown political maturity, they seem to have a better grip on project management, they have shown vision to lead Pakistan out of its current situation and as I see the main problem in Pakistan is of poor economic growth, I think that they can improve the economy. Pakistan needs job creation and a robust private sector. I think from the given lot they have an edge. I also think that having had governments dismissed twice by Army they need to complete a full term, so that we can see their performance or lack of.
I hope PTI can inprove their performance in KP so that people have a real alternative to PML N, I hope parties compete on their performance and governance rather than empty slogans.
I support Pakistan and whoever acts in the interest of Pakistan I support. I don't blindly follow any particular party and can change stance based on issues that matter to me.
