Re: Imran Khan vs. Nawaz Sharif: Whom are you supporting and why?
I would support any party that would not take loans. That is major root of corruption. Most people don’t know when these people default on loans, the whole country has to pay for it. (increased in taxes, increased in electricity rate, reduce funding for education, reduced construction project) essential they are stealing directly from your pocket:teary1:
Re: Imran Khan vs. Nawaz Sharif: Whom are you supporting and why?
its a little different and has multiple definitions, one is closer to what you noted other suggests that you have to go above a certain bar to be able to vote etc.
I read something that I am pasting below. It has some issues and I can see how it can really worry people at large but some points that its raises are rather interesting. It was an interesting read. Although even for proponents of meritocracy, the question remains, how do you manage that without that in itself becoming another oligarchy with even less checks and balances.
"the challenge with democracy right now at large, although it has been around for ever is that it is really more of an oligarchy. A small, elite group govern in their own interests and take active steps to dupe the people, to provide misinformation and disinformation, to exploit the power of their office to disguise their many abuses. It is advantageous to them to maintain the people docile, unthinking, easily controlled, lacking initiative, incapable of resisting. It is the perfect instrument of control. The people, brainwashed by relentless propaganda about do not know how to see through the lies and being taken for a perpetual ride. Its viable when majority of citizens are highly capable, clever, and resourceful. At that point, democracy and meritocracy intersect and become synonymous. Until that point, the most meritorious people in society must be placed in charge"
May be different topic though, a thread on its own, less charged with ethnocentric political demigod worshipping
I find it more or less a very accurate... on all counts. Cheers
