The denial of sex may be "stupid, barbaric, immature" and so on, but I recall it being a step in the Quranic recommendation for disciplining wives - verbal admonishment and beating her (lightly, of course) with a toothbrush being the other 2 steps. You'd never think sex sanctions and toothbrush beating would work wonders in resolving marital discord, but there ya go.

Actually chaibiskut quoted the verse as is.....it does say to admonish them first, then separate your beds, and then beat them lightly.....why is that messed up? It is what it is.
