Importing Pakistani Mangoes into the US

How can we import Pakistani mangoes into the US?
This would be a sure-fire hit business borne out of desperation.

Mango mafia !

Actually, I am half-joking and half-serious.

The idea keeps brewing in my mind every time summer rolls in. There’s got to be a way to get past those customs. How come these Mexican mangoes make it to the supermarkets but Pakistani aam don’t? :hoonh:

Because on their way to US, they pass through UK and we consume them all.

^ :smash:

Some of the indian stores now carry Indian Mangoes … they are better than Mexican ones but no match for langra

the paksitani mangos r supsoed to be in the big supermarkets liek tesco because the queen liekd them so much. they had to wait for the damn queen to realise how gd the pakistani mangos r :rolleyes;

Faisal:
I'm guessing that NAFTA and the closeness of Mexico to the US makes the cost associated with bringing Mangos into the US from Mexico far cheaper than it could ever be to bring Mangos into the US from Pakistan.

No matter how good the Pakistani Mango might be, do you really think a $2.00 Mango from Pakistan can compete against a $.50 Mango from Mexico?

You'd probably make more money buying a bunch of Mexican Mangos at $.50 a piece in a chain grocery store and then selling them as Pakistani Mangos to some unsuspecting neighborhood store owner for $.65 a piece in a neighborhood frequented by Pakistanis. My guess is that the consumer who buys the "Pakistani Mango" from his neighborhood store for $.75 a piece will never complain about the taste because of national pride and the placebo principle.

Arghhhh myvoice.

Really. You have to taste Pakistani mango, before putting a price tag on them. You say $2.... I say $3 would be fair as well. People just need to eat one before they will be willing to swipe their cards for any amount. Ofcourse, if any are left after the desi population has cleared up the aisle.

myvoice, what do you say. You take care of the customs, and I will provide shipments. We share 50-50. In your old age, you can't find a better retirement plan.

ps. ahmadjee... if you think langra is the best there is, my dear sir, you need to try Anver ratol (sp?).

^Anwar Ratol is creme de la creme of mangoes.

ranking goes like ...
1. anwar ratol
2. chonsa
.
.
.
.
.
langra
sindhiri (sp?)
MEXICAN
.

.
.
INDIAN :p

If my retirement is truly dependent on how many Pakistan Mangos you can sell in the US at $3 each, I'm in real trouble. Can't we smuggle in some seeds and grow the things on some god forsaken blighted farm in Appalachia operated by some hillbilly farmer with three teeth (or alternatively, operated by OhioGuy [or am I being redundant there] ) ?

i know this may not be entirely related, but ... talking about bringing in mangoes into North America... about a week ago, my Abbu brought a whole crate full of mangoes, from Pakistan via Abu Dhabi, to Canada. From Abu Dhabi, they were entirely sealed in plastic bags. They didn't give him any trouble. Strange part is - i spoke to a Cdn customs official directly last year and he told me that, technically speaking Canada won't allow province-to-province transfer of even a packet of soil because of the potential for transferring/spreading bacteria or viruses (this of course happens every hour, regardless of the laws). But they allowed a crate full of foreign mangoes.

ah well - i'm certainly not complaining. :o Nothing beats having a certified, 100% desi mango milkshake, to beat Canada's cold-weather blues.

Faisal bhai

gerry's express sends mangoes from pakistan to anywhere in the country/world

i'm sure if you're serious, you can talk to the concerned authorities and figure out a business plan

btw my rating for mangoes

to eat - chonsa

for milkshakes - sindhri

ethnic markets are very strong, have u seen rice being imported from pakistan..btw try SDhan rice soemtime, u will never buyuncle ben's again.

anyways..there are imported cheeses, imported wines, imported olives..which sell for a premium, and people buy them.

now an avg joe may or may not pay more for expensive mangoes, but question is..is there a critical mass that will.

people imported sodas from pakistan which sell for over twice the price of local sodas, but they sell like hot cakes.

For all you Americans who love Pakistani mangoes.
