well the online thing is nice for people that it has worked out for but many times a person's personality might not be what it was online or there might be a "wolf in sheep's clothing" thing that might happen. Please please don't jump into an online marriage just to go against your parents or only for the reason that you want to pick your husband yourself
If you are close to your family than most of time I think the guy they pick(family friend or a guy they've known for years) might be best since obviously in this case the families will always get along and there won't be that many family problems.
Plus, your family probably has checked everything in terms of compatibility between both of you. So give this guy a try and see if you like him.
A guy who you meet online might not treat your family properly or might end up being a complete jerk, but I guess if you're lucky then all things might work out but these are the exceptions I think.
