Imli ki chutney

How do I make it out of tamarind paste?

Also, does anyone know any sherbet recipes that require imli?

Re: Imli ki chutney

I made it with this recipe :
http://www.indobase.com/recipes/details/imli-ki-chutney.php

I did not have jaggery so used brown sugar instead. Also i did not use Asafoetida, used a little chat masala and reduced the quantities of dates. It was good!

Re: Imli ki chutney

This is my fav' tried and tested recipe which I got from a website and its so delicious that my little nieces and nephews would lick the spoon and saucepan clean! Lol. Its perfect as a topping on dahi pulikiyan and fruit chaat etc.

This is meethi imli ki chutney.

Ingredients:

A packet of imli seeds
1/4 tsp salt
2 tsy cumin seeds
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
300 gms of sugar
300 ml water

Method:

If the imli you have is seedless then put it with water into a food processor and blend it into a puree.

If the imli you have has seeds in it then pick out the seeds and put the rest into a saucepan with water and all the above ingredients. Cook on low heat until the sugar disssolves for about 5 mins.

Then on high heat cook for about 10 mins stirring constantly until the chutney is thick. You can store this in the fridge for upto 2 weeks or freeze it straight away.

Re: Imli ki chutney

The link isn’t working :frowning:

Thanks for the recipe but what if I use tamarind paste instead of just the seeds? Should I follow the same procedure?

Re: Imli ki chutney

I make my chutney like Iyla does, but I always use the packet with the seeds. It's takes more time because you have to soak it and sieve it,but it's much better then using the paste.

Thanks for the recipes people :shoaby: I made the chutney for iftar today. It tasted good though next time I’ll add a bit more sugar

Re: Imli ki chutney

I'm not sure...check to see the ingredients of the tamarind paste and what's in it?

I would use imli seeds that come in the plastic packet and then make the sauce yourself.
