Imams

Why do we follow imams when there is Quran and the Holy Prophet

why are muslims divided into so many sects when God said that all are equal …

is it right to be a wahabhi, and the other imam folowers the one starts with f and the other with s i have forgotten their names

me i call myself muslim period
after that i dont believe in sects or whatever
shia sunni wahabi ahmadi who cares
???
so tell me where will these ppl stand on the day of judgment who tend to divide islam into sects??

One can't disregard different Imams as well as different disciplines such as Shaafayii, Hanafi, Malaki, Hanabli(wrong spelling) and Jaferi on the mere bases of fitna within muslim world.

Even though every muslims believe wholeheartedly in Quran, Prophet and Allah, yet not every muslim is knowledgeable enough to comprehend or translate the rules of Fiqa, Osool as well as Quran and Ahadeeths of Prophet. Besides this reason, there are more than adequate logical as well as factual reasonings to follow an Imam or certain fiqah.

By declaring that one is only a muslim, a person is failing to realize that Islam is a complete way of life, at one time or other, one would need to look into one of those fiqahs to get the appropriate answer for religious questions/problems.

Well if that's the case then the muslims will never be united and will continue bickering and fighting forever. We have been given the Quran, everything we need is in there and anyone who denies this fact is contradicting Gods own words. If we spent time and energy studying the Quran most things would become clear as Allah has made it 'easy' for us to understand ( as stated in the Quran).

But that will not happen, we'll just leave it on that shelf in its nice cover and listen to all the other retoric and conjecture which we have inherited throughout time....fight on.

No group actually calls itself Wahabis. However, people may call some of those
who express certain views as Wahabis, which is a name supposed to refer to the followers of Imam Muhammad ibn Abdulwahhab who was a great reformer and scholar. He lived in Najd
over 200 years ago and worked hard to eradicate all innovations from Islamic worship. Such innovations had crept into the practices of Muslim communities due to ignorance and long periods of decline undergone by Muslim communities. He maintained that the example of the
Prophet i.e. the Sunnah should be followed diligently. There is no disagreement among
scholars that this is required of every Muslim. It is unfortunate that some of the practices which Imam Muhammad ibn Abdulwahhab spoke very strongly against still persist in some Muslim communities. These include such terrible practices as visiting the graves of supposedly saintly people and asking the dead to intervene with Allah on behalf of the visitor for any purpose. Such a practice Islam shuns, since it is a manifestation of associating partners with Allah. Imam
Muhammad ibn Abdulwahhab belonged to the Sunni Muslims who, by virtue of their name,
should follow the Sunnah, or the example, set by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with
diligence. Hence, it is wrong to classify Muslims as Wahabis and Sunnis, since the followers of Imam Abdulwahhab belong to the Sunni group of Muslims. Those who insist on following the Sunnah of the Prophet
diligently should have the patience to teach their fellow Muslims, with respect and compassion, that some of their practices are unacceptable from the Muslim point of view. Had they done so, they would find better response by other Muslims.

I only follow quran and hadith thats it and no other imam or books. We should live our lives like Mohammad and his companions did not how did the immam after them did! About muslims dividing into sects well its a hadith on Mohammad and i will come true.
" he said there will be 72 or jews and 72 of chiristians sects, but my people will be in 73 sects and all of them will go to HELL except ONE(1), and that will be who ever follows quran and obeys me and lives his/her life the way my suhaba lived"!

Abdullah bin Amar relates that the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said "Surely things will happen to my people as happened earlier to Israelites, they will resemble each other like one shoe in a pair resembles the other to the extent that if anyone among the Israelites has openly committed adultery to his mother there will be some who will do this in my Ummah as well, verily the Israelites were divided into 72 sections but my people will be divided into 73 sections, all of them will be in the fire except one." The companions asked, 'Who are they O Messenger of Allah,' Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "They are those who will be like me and my companions." (Trimizi, Kitabul Eeman)

still doesnt answer my question
i need a simple answer
cause i dont understand complex things or dont wanto understand

ok ok so the imams were there to tell us certain things but is it right to divide into sectors and say that we are the followers of a certain imam .....??

why cant we all be just muslims ...the more the sects the more we seem to fight .....

nadia i agree

Better still, why can't we all be just plain humans? Why drag in a supernatural being to police us and fight over?

Nadia, Mohammad said there will be 73 sects, and there WILL be 73 sects in islam no matter what you do to prevent it, its gona happen!! What can you do to help, well just try to follow the QURAN AND BOOKS OF HADITH thats it what ever is in there is right everythng is else is made up by humans of this recent era, as i said before innovations are a SIN in islam and who were promotes innovations in islam and who ever follows it without any research and its not true and was not in islam at the time of the mohammad is really making a big SIN and his/her place is hell!

Imams are just like a person who will guide you(show you things or tell you things that you dont understand) in your religious practices thats all he has to and should follow whats in quran and hadith and should all so encourage other to do the same. But i encourage all of you to read the quran and hadith by your self so you better understand it and you know its right instead of others telling you!

The haidth is right that the fitnah for muslims is that they would be divided in 72 sects.

But we cannot count the imams in sects. They have done a lot of work for Islam that no other person could do, and it is they have compiled all the instruction given by Allah and followed by his last prophet and the companions of the prophet for us, so that we could lead out lives according to Islam. All the four Major Imams have not created their own version of Islam, in most of the cases every Imam came up with the same Answers.

As for that by this all of the muslims would be fighting with each other(Camille), I could give you my example that where I live and pray the Namaz, we have people from all the four fiqhas who unite together under one roof and pray namaz behind one imam, so thats not a fact.

Besides all the imams in their had a respect for other imams, so if some their descendants are fighting than they are not following their imams practise....

If you think there is good in everybody, you haven't met everybody.

The reality of having different Imams comes from what they saw the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) doing at one particular time. One thing you have to keep in mind is that there are 4 imams, and they dont necessarily contradict each other. They just present different settings on different situations. e.g. if one sahabi saw the prophet(SAW) doing one thing, he passed that on to his friends, family and followers. Another sahabi saw the prophet doing something else in the same situation, at a different time, and he pased on that information to his loved ones. Now the two sahaba passed on different informations, not for contraditiction, but for variety, in what is allowed. Obviously there are more than one or two things allowed in different situations at times, so that gives us a variety in how we do different things in our lives from time to time. It is us people who have made these out into "differences" and have started classifying ourselves as a different sect from one who does something differently than us. If we pray by locking our hands above our navel, and see someone who is praying by locking his hands below his navel, we call it a difference in belief and distance ourselves from that person. Imams are there just for our guidance, and we should follow them in instances where we cant come up with a solution, but it is not right to follow one imam, because that states that you are classifying the other imams as being wrong in what they have preached. The fact is that all imams preached what they saw in the life of the Prophet (SAW). Their narrations are different because they were not there at the same time. They were there at different times, and saw different things. But since its been built into our nature to develop contradictions based on trivial matters, we will do so, and as said by the prophet (SAW), we will indeed end up with 73 sects.

Dera Nadia

Very simple answer!
1. We need imam beause they are like a proffessor for students (we all people with little knowlegde). They guide us about wrongs and rights, as professor say to student that the formula is E=mc^2. Same structure.

  1. Why we have many sects. Why is there many leading scientists who are not agree with their competitor (spelled right i guess). That the same with us muslim. May be many feel more freedom being wahabi, may be we beleive that the last prophet is Muhammed (peace be upon him) therefore the sect who beleieve this is sunni (we then become sunni), may be some like the story of martyr (they become like shia). So there are many beause we dont suit us in other sects!!

I hope it was very simple and clear as a blank water.

shamas...comparing Islam with science wouldnt be fair i think, because in science, there is always room for improvement, innovation. Whereas in Islam, innovation is a sin. You cant change the laws of Islam. You cant improve upon them. They were given to us in the best form possible. Its not about differences between the Imams..its about variety. Surely there are more than one ways of doing a certain thing in Islam. But we, being as ignorant as we are, have made out those variations to be basis for differences, hence the sects. Islam is not something that you can adapt according to your 'needs'. Its not a science. Its a way of life that was the same for people 1400 years ago, and will be the same for people 1400 years from now. Imams are there to tell us which variations have been witnessed in the life of the prophet SAW, and are hence acceptable. We cant make variations on our own.

shamas...are there any sects in islam that DONT believe that Muhammad (SAW) is the last prophet? are sunnis the only ones?

Hello Akif!

To be honest i am not quite sure. But i do remember that those who are ahmdi, they do not beleieve that Muhammed (PBUH) is the last prophet. You can also check it out by asking someone who is familiar with Ahmedi's idea or theology.

As long as these people do not start passing laws which are not stated in the Quran then fine, but thats not always the case.

We sadly forget that that purpose of Islam is submission to God , and submission doesn't just mean that you say his name in kalima or that you offer prayers just to him , but submission also means that you recognize that we humans have no power at all , we stand sit , breath , for him and our lives should completely be devoted to him alone , not to some molvi , imam or anyone else , doesn't matter how pious they are are or were , they are mere humans like us. But following the Quran only for all guidnace means that the power of law making is taken out of human hands, humans love this power.

That's true! Being human, all imams have human opinions and human agendas besides interpreting and spreading Islam in its true form. They can't help but let their own personal agendas influence their interpretations and rulings. I believe that it is in part because of them that our traditions have moved away from Islam.

Heres a link.. www.inter-islam.org/4imam3.htm

this page will provide u with info on all 4 imams, their lifestyles, origins, where they got their knowledge from. One thing that i discovered is that none of them contradicted the other. They might have been different, but not contradictory. However, what we do in our lives is judged by our intention, not action. So Allah(SWT) knows best. Do read this link. Good info.

nope u ppl have gotten off the track
i didnt ask why do we need imams ....maybe i did i dont remember

however the thing thats bugging me is that why are muslims divided into so many sects and then consider themselves to be the only true muslims ......
sunnis will say we are the only ones
shias will say likewise
blah blah blah

why why why ????

Nadia sister jii!

I think you better read what the other has posted before you send the last post. Or may be you have not written clearly enough what you are questioning us!
As someone wrote that those sects are made because they "suit" us which depend what you want to beleive on. That wrong according what The Holy Quran say. It say "beleive on unseen, beleive on unknown bla bla.."
It mean that Allah are taking our imtihaan whether we are able to believe on unseen which we are of course not putting enough faith on it. Everything we know is based that those are proved by someone. That the different in faith. ( i hope i am right at this point).
