AUSTRALIA’S most controversial sheik, Taj Din al-Hilali, has been caught on videotape kicking in a door at his own mosque before calling police to report an act of vandalism.

The head imam at the Lakemba mosque, who caused outrage in 2006 by comparing scantily clad women to uncovered meat, was shown on a CCTV security tape kicking open the door just minutes before reporting the incident.

The Nine Network’s A Current Affair last night broadcast the videotape from March 9, showing the incident, which Sheik Hilali initially denied.

“There is a trick in this camera. There is a trick in this film,” he told ACA.

But in a letter sent by Sheik Hilali’s lawyers to ACA yesterday, he admitted kicking the door, saying the damage had already been done to the door before he kicked it.

“What he did do was to kick open a door to the mosque that had already been damaged by others in order to gain entry to it,” the letter said.

Lebanese Muslim Association president Shawky Kassir said they had called the police “for a little problem, but we have fixed (it) and everything is under control”.

The footage shows four young men locking the door behind them at 10.28pm.

Nine minutes later, Sheik Hilali checks the lock and pushes on the top of the door, bending it on its hinges. After checking the corridor, he disappears from view before rushing towards it and kicking it open at 10.46pm.

It is understood the name of the suspected culprit was put forward to NSW police, but it is not known if he was interviewed by the authorities.

A NSW Police media spokesperson said they started to investigate the matter but three days later were told by a mosque official that he did not wish to take the matter any further.

“The matter remains under investigation. Further senior members of the local community will be consulted to discuss the incident.”

As long as you are not like the mad mullah in the video above that's fine. I'm talking about jihadi supporters, a term used to describe modern day mental nutcases who use islam to murder, torture and loot.

I have seen Imams doing worst than this and then lying . I have heard them using worst possible language in an outrage. I have heard them telling R rated jokes. what does that prove ? Nothing more than this that there are some good people and some bad ones in this world, there are some good imams and some bad imams. :chai:

I am sad to see that so many people are quick to jump to conclusions with people. I have watched that video in bits again and again and to me at least the reporters are trying to defame him. They have taken advantage of his lack of understanding and eloquence in English and they have emphasised him getting angry when they accuse him of being a liar - which in the Arabic culture is a major curse ... He openly admits in the video that he kicked open the door, and they don't present even once the whole discussion or response by him. Just watch it. At 5:56 he admits that he kicked opened the door. But the journalist changes the topic and says "his excuse ... " This is slander at its best guys ... just let this rest and let the English speaking lawyers sort this one out.

Also his friend shakes his head when the journalist narrates to him about why they phoned the police. It seems there is internal conflict in the masjid and the door was locked and it was assumed to be vandalised so the sheikh kicked it open. Even this conversation was edited.

And why did he kick open the door in the first place? His openly admitting video evidence after the fact isn't all that brave of him.

he has no problem lying but has a problem accepting he kicked the door. and all this time i thought i'd never see the day when using keys became more haram than lying.

Seems plausible here.

The video (meaning the story video) is tit bits and unfortunately we cannot know what's the truth even by seeing the whole video.

By the way, any video can have a time stamp placed over it. So to show the part where it is shown exact time record may not be true or may be true.

There is no voice in the video where police is there at the door. So what conversation was going on then, no one knows.

Too much doubt.

I am from Sydney and I can tell you from personal experience that this so-called "Sheikh" is a fraud and an attention whoring idiot. I've not only watched the video but read other reports that are not owned by News Corp. and they can attest to the fact that this idiot lied.

So stop defending him just because he claims to be "pious". Anyone who has been to Lakemba knows that it is a dump full of backward-minded Muslims who don't go back to their own countries.
