I'm thinking about moving to Pakistan

Re: I'm thinking about moving to Pakistan

one can do so much there that its really hard to find where to start from.

the best thing can be you go there first, adjust yourself with the environment and everything and then bring your family to Pakistan.

I have always wondered, what does a Senior Marketing Executive do?

What do you put on your resume? what are your accomplishments?

If I can understand it, then I may be able to give some leads.

Re: I'm thinking about moving to Pakistan

@Psyah- job creation is the start of everything, allowing people to have disposable income will mean a demand for goods encouraging foreign investment but more importantly encouraging enterprise within Pakistan to balance the trade deficit, leading to a stronger economy and currency. I know it’s not as simple as that or something that happens overnight but job creation is where it all starts.

Any company is in existence to make profit whether it’s Bilal in Lalazar with his cart selling fruit and veg or a multinational selling mobile phone services. That’s just the way it works.

I’m not sure how using cell phones can be classed as luxurious? And things from other cultures shouldn’t simply be shunned because they’re from the west, imagine if they had ignored coffee, the pin hole camera and soap just becuase these were muslim inventions.

@obama- You should be able to download my cv from my website now asifafzal.com.

OK Thanks!

Thank you so much for your pittance. Your generosity is highly appreciated.

Every venture for good needs to be tempered against the morality of its substance. If not then we can get 'wall street success, with wall street morals'.

But hey we are acting as though it will be easy to break the status quo of Pakistan. Not likely.

The man on the street has no interest in the bigger picture. If people are not mugged, then a cop will need to be bribed, if not that then a gunda will need to be paid to keep the gangs away.

Coffee, cameras and soap in themselves are ok. However, coffee has many ethical issues when countries that produce it must do so to sustain their weak economies and are left with less land to grow their own food. Cameras have bought no increase in morality and soap will make our bodies clean, but not our souls.

I say this again. Go there make a difference ... but can you make a 'real' difference by helping to work towards a moral society as well? If you have this 'motive' then I support your struggle.

Re: I'm thinking about moving to Pakistan

I thought I was the only one fed up of the UK!!

Re: I'm thinking about moving to Pakistan

yes asif I am also thinking of moving,
I was also born and grew up in the uk and just feel Pakistan has more to offer in terms of cultural values and respect.
but its not that simple my hubby still needs convincing :(
but im working on it!!!
my mil an my fil want to move there too, so inshallah we will soon.

Re: I'm thinking about moving to Pakistan

Good luck with that Shab, I've been trying to convince my parents for a while now and my Dad came around to the idea last night fingers crossed he doesn't chang ehis mind :)

Re: I'm thinking about moving to Pakistan

^lol...my husband's father did the same when we tried to move to Pakistan few years ago.

Good. It should be. If people from abroad didn't support their relatives back in Paksitan, especially in healthcare and education, there would be even more people in difficult circumstances. God knows Pakistan doesn't need any more of that.

So maybe get off your high horse and be realistic.

Thanks for this comment.

Just as an example, the chairman of the faimid foundation came to the UK some weeks back for fundraising. He was overwhelmed by the level of donation and how much just two weeks here accomplished.

i think you should first come to pakistan without wive and kids see how things are.. apply for jobs.. look for a house and when you are settled move your family.. coz other wize it would hurt ur kids education and would waste a lot of money if you dont decide to move after all.. Pakistan is the land of oppotunities go for it!!

Re: I'm thinking about moving to Pakistan

I believe once he made his decision to move to Pakistan, i am sure there would lot of opportunities available to him.

Please do not flame me as i am not painting all pakistanis from same brush, there are many talented man and woman in Pakistan no doubt.

Managed a small business in Pakistan as well as outside, I have very bad impression of you workforce in Pakistan. The main reason is due to lack of jobs in Pakistan, everyone is willing to accept any first job come in his her way, so we have huge work force which is disinterested and not passion about what they are doing resulting unhappiness all around.

Thus the employers would love someone who is passionate and really good at his job.

My close friend owns a mid size of IT organization in Pakistan, and i can say non of his 100 employees deserver there position there. There are few good people who very good at their job now are reaching on top of their careers (one of them went on to become a director at Intel, and another one is also now holding director position at HP).

If someone has what it takes in Pakistan, have seen careers growth with my own eyes, one guy joined that small company as marketing coordinator, moved to sales (he extremely passionate about his work) quickly rose to manager position and later got an offer from Compaq and after less then 10 years he is holding director position at HP.

On other side his boss, who was director at that company, ended up working as manager at another organization.

Another example of my 24 years old girl, she is working for another MNC also in IT industry, (she is not working in Pakistan, but it is one of her territory). With just a graduate degree and two years of working experience. But because (they have seen her work) her a marketing manager.

It is not that she is too good (she is good now doubt but this is only half of the story), it is more to do with incompetence of past manager as well her passion towards her job made her star in there eyes.

I believe Pakistan has great opportunities for right peoples in career or with someone with entrepreneurship flair.

So my message is one might struggle in beginning but if he is good at it, rewards are greater in Pakistan. And luck also plays its part as well

But one need seriously consider lifestyle, one could live with power shortages, water and other issues. Provided he is sure about security of himself or his family. Few of my friends and family members were robbed at gun point (it is so common that most of us even do not bother to report police). I myself once jumped out of a moving vehicle to escape form kidnapper on the street of Karachi. One of sons friend’s father has been kidnapped in Mansehra for more then one months so far not yet released. Please dua for his safe release.

There incidents would never stop me to going back to Pakistan, but would never leave my children, at least not till situation become reasonably safe for them (nevertheless two of them still staying there).
