I’m thinking about moving to Pakistan with my wife. In the UK I’m working as Senior Marketing Executive. I’ve applied for jobs on sites like Rozee but I’ve not had any response.
Do you think it would make more sense to spend a month in Pakistan job hunting or will I need to have connections?
Yes you need connections, and also it's very important which city you are going: if you went to karachi/Lahore/Islamabad - then hopefully you will land with some good opportunities.. .
instead of 1 month .. i would give it 3-6 months !
Connections are needed for Public Sector and Government jobs , if you want to work for private sector you need some excellent skills and qualifications.
Private sector in Pakistan has become very strong now and looking for talent to hire. Start sending your unsolicited resume/CV to top executives of Private companies , industrial and commercial groups , you can indicate in your cover letter that you will be available for an interview from a specific date to another specific date.
May Allah grant you success in your endeavor . Ameen.
do not apply once you are in pakistan. you will get better jobs if you apply while you are sitting abroad. apki value zyada hogi. you will have more negotiating power for salary and other perks. your employer should not have the impression that you don't have any other choice. he should think that great options/alternatives are already available for you in UK.
for senior marketing executive (i am assuming middle management) you can expect something like 3-4 lakh and a city/civic/corolla.
if you talk about more senior then i think 5-6 lakh and even better car like accord.
medical insurance etc is ofcourse there.
if you get hired while you are in UK they should pay for your relocation to pakistan also. you and your family costs.
I work in middle management in a private company . 3-4 lakh is crazy ! I doubt a company would pay that much amount , may be a bank but definitely not for middle management. yes medical insurance is there but not all of them are good and sufficient many of them don't pay for medicine.
I know multinational pharmaceuticals pay for relocation but I doubt about other companies
I don't intend to discourage anyone but please don't live in fantasy world think alot before taking life changing decisions and yes I agree by applying for job from UK there is a better chance of getting it and you have more negotiating power.
Thank you everybody for your replies. I was thinking around the 1 lakh figure would be enough to take a job offer. I was born and raised in the UK so I have Yorkshire accent and I only planned to move to Pakistan once I secured a job.
I'll look at the Sidat Haider. Once again thank you everybody!
Asif, why do you want to move to Pakistan? Especially when you have been raised up here, are settled with a good job, i guess your family would be here too; and circumstances there aren't exactly favourable?
Yes my family are here and even after trying persuade them they won't be moving with my wife and me.
I just feel fed up in the UK where as in Pakistan I feel I'm at home. It may have some probelms but if I can use my skills for an organisation and help a company become competitive and create jobs I might be able to make a small difference.
I also feel the more people that return to Pakistan the better the future looks and only a strong economy can rid Pakistan of many of it's problems.

Asif, Thats good thinking. This is a big decision and not easy; more surprising when coming from a UK born and bred.
What do you mean by being fed up here? whats your major reason or main motivation behind this?
Do wish you all the best, and do keep us all updated on your progress as I am sure there would be lots of us who would be interested; who'd like to make the move but don't know when or aren't sure..
i'll say go to pakistan and hunt for the job and keep applying in uk too...but dont leave ur current job in uk as u shud always have something in ur hand. one thing i would say is that if you work in uk that money will be much more in pak rupees..i work here at a normal grocery store job but my pay converted into rupees is pretty much high i mean 5/6 maheena ka kharcha araam se chal sakta hai...well it all depends on situation...
@Hum Hain- What I mean by being fed up in the UK is sometimes I look around and I don't feel part of the UK but when I'm in Pakistan I get a feeling of being at home. Also I've spent most of my life around gorey and as much British Asians like to think we're a part of Britain many gorey don't accept us even if they're friendly to us.
A lot of people from the UK are from villages and when they go back all they see is thier village and find it boring. This is what they associate with Pakistan so many negative things, those that make an effort to see Pakistan have a different attitude. There are few big benefits of being in the UK I must admit such as the strength of the currency and free health care but that's about it.
So why not use what I have to help my own country and help it get to a position it can provide these things? I'm also encouraging my father to take a Renewable energy course so he fit things like solar panels and with current Electricty shortages would help many people.
@blessed2006 If I can earn enough to live in Pakistan and raise a family, that's all I need. I won't be leaving my current job untill I secure another one.
And thank you everybody for your wishes and if I could ask if you all please make dua for me.
Are you sure you can fit in the Pakistani lifestyle? There are no nightclubs and there is a lot of load shedding in many cities in Pakistan.
You have good intentions but you know my cousin was all hyped up about moving to Pakistan and after 1 month he ran back to New York.
But Good Luck and keep us informed if you actually get the job and move to Pakistan
Like others have suggested, it makes more sense to job hunt while you're employed in your current job. In addition to searching through job sites, I'd suggest developing contacts through various marketing related professional associations such as Marketing Association of Pakistan and the Pakistan Advertising Association. Once you have some contacts going, may be taking a couple of weeks off work to personally meet with them and get a lay of the land might be a good idea.
