^ i'm thinking the same...
my hair was not dead curly irem. it was straight at the top and curly at the ends so when it grows out it wont be a problem. the hairdresser was actually surprised i wanted to straighten it coz he thought i had it permed at the ends. i have strange hair. when i used to blow dry it myself before it looked like this:
