I want to learn how to drive but I’m really really scared of driving and losing control. I almost panic. What shall I do?

First step to doing anything is to eliminate "i cant do it' from your mind !
Just think everybody else does it..professional drivers arent the most intelligent folks around or obviously they would have landed with other jobs.
So if everybody else can do it, so can you IA :D

INTENTIONALLY CRASH THE CAR!
I am mean buy any old beat up car, insure it. Go some where in the country side where there is no one around. Do your worst, wreck it. Learning will only start once you get rid of your fears.

You can never "talk it out" when it comes to fear of driving, you can only "drive it out".
Request someone capable of reducing your anxiety while you drive to accompany you, if being alone makes it worst. However it is almost always helpful to identify the cause of fear, once you know the devil you can deal with it better.

What kind of a car are you driving? Automatic or manual?

I have the same prob hareem and I believe that it's because I'm lacking confidence and I need to get it back first. Second thing is practice which can make anyone perfect for sure. A capable instructor can help you out regarding all of these problems

there is a name of that phobia. though i cant remember the name.
a frined of mine had that, she couldnt drive a car until she was 28.
so dont feel low about yourself, there are a lot of people who has the same problem.
be confident and remove all the fears from your mind. take driving classes or baby steps as others suggested.
or get help of your hubby's best friend ( i am saying this because usually learning from a loved one ends up in a fight).
good thing that you are not in india, you have to be a rocket scientist to drive a car in india.

^I'm nearing 28 soon. :(
I don't drive yet. I tried learning from my husband but it made it worse. The whole experience was so tense and terrifying....shudders.
I'm going to take lessons soon from a driving instructor but I just don't wanna sit behind the steering wheel yet learn to be able to drive with confidence.
Should I choose a male or a female instructor?

It is a phobia and the professionals treat and cure phobia by exposing the patient to the thing they have phobia of.
So you have taken the first step that you are going to learn from a driving school, they will make sure that you gain confidence. No worries. :k:

Get a male instructor. my older sister learned it from a female instructor and still she cant drive.
you will be safer in hands of a male instructor since you have that fear.
Un- necessary disclaimer: * i dont mean that female instructors are any less capable. i just gave my opinion based on my understanding on the issue at hand.
Hareem, just do what many other women who don't know how to drive do. Get the largest possible SUV and Sunglasses.
Seriously though, I would say go with an automatic instead of a manual. Learn to drive both, but buy an automatic.

the 1st time i got in the car i got into an accident :hinna:
i didn’t drive for a year and now iam out on the road everyday , the more you drive the more comfortable you will feel and the better you will get , you can do everything you set your mind to it. 
take a few driving lessons and you will be good to go.

DON’T HAVE YOUR HUSBAND TEACH YOU! (no offense to your husband)
I hated learning from my family members - you need a person who’s not related to you to teach you how to drive - they’re paid to do it as a job so they have a vested interest in ensuring that you learn how to drive. Family tends to just get frustrated and they will daant you 
So harsh Us women drivers are not all bad…maybe just the ones in the large SUVs wearing sunglasses
