Im not a happy camper these days...

Hey PSquared,

I hear ya. I love those midnight snacks....somehow they taste even better at that hour. I hope everything went well with the "visit" for your sister:) I wish her the best!

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Oooooooooooooooh it went really well Mashallah!!! I really like this guy for her and so does my mom but in the end its her choice. But Im still excited! lol We were all talking and chit chatting until 3am...Pakistani households...seriously!

They're going out for brunch alone tomorrow because he leaves tomorrow night. He has to be back at work on Monday. Inshallah, it will go well...:)

Okay, so I tried Benadryl to make me go to sleep yesterday. And I slept for 3 hours:/ But when I woke up my throat was dry with a yucky post nasal drip sorta feeling. What is that all about? I don't think I'm going to use Benadryl as a sleep aid again. Time to use natural remedies.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

A fitting poem for this thread.

**Ode to Insomnia

 **by Red Velvet

Twas the night before tomorrow, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring,

Whoops i accidentally sent the previous post incomplete.

A fitting poem for this thread:

Ode to Insomnia

by Red Velvet

It was the night before tomorrow, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
Except for Red Velvet
Who neither yawns nor slumbers
She looks at the clock
And its changing numbers
She shakes her head
Glances toward her bed
She looks toward the sky
And implores....
"Why God? Why????"
Can't I sleep?

(please, please, no need for applause)

Yes, I am that bored. Bored enough to write about my lack of sleep. Hope it was entertaining. At least this insomnia is poetically inspiring.

Ya know what.........I'm kinda feeling drowsy. Hmmm, I might actually get some sleep.....fingers crossed.......this time without the help of any pill.........fingers crossed.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

RV, that was awesome! Taliyan!!!!!!!

Guess what I took last night????

Nyquil! It helped soooooooooooooo much!

Nyquil, eh? So, that's the secret to your absence from the Insomniac thread. Thought you had gone down for the night, lol.

You know, Reha, I don't think I can take any other medication. I've done the Tylenol PM and I've done Benadryl........and they were about as effective.....as **EACH OTHER! **Meaning, on average I only got 3 hours of sleep. And I think they're beginning to do a bit of a number on me. Because, although I didn't take Benadryl at all yesterday........I'm still feeling slightly groggy......and I feel lightheaded especially when I sit down. Must be the effect of both pills.

I did try something different last night, that worked nicely. My dad travels a lot and on one of his trips he got these two fragrant roll-ons. One of them is to relieve stress, and the other one induces sound sleep. The sleep inducer contains lavender, nutmeg, and sandalwood. You're supposed to rub it on the pillow and neck. The stress reliever bottle contains lemon, lime, lavender, and peppermint. You're supposed to rub that on your temples and wrists. So, I used BOTH of them, and I felt pretty calm afterwards....and eventually fell asleep.

So, either the roll-on bottles really worked........or my body finally decided to shut down from exhaustion. I'm gonna try it again tonight. And i might even look into aromatherapy, it that's what it's called. So, if ya don't see me on the thread tonight, it's because i'm snoozing. This time....courtesy of fragrant travel roll-ons!

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Tell me if it works because I will be all over that.

I took the Nyquil and fell asleep. I slept all the way upto 6.30am or so which is pretty good. Then, I woke up and had to take a nap at around 2pm because as you said...still groggy.

I need to figure this out.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Im thinking of downing some Nyquil tonight...hmmmmmmmmmmm

OMG…it’s like we’re becoming OTC sleep-aid druggies! :konfused:

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

I gave in and took that damn Nyquil again...

Sleep well, PSquared. One of my stresses right now besides not having a job, is lack of sleep. I dare not use any more medicine. Believe it or not.....my head is still reeling from what I took previously, day before yesterday. It's amazing!

Re: Im not a happy camper these days…

Someone make me go to sleep. :sadiyah:

Alright Straight-Up,

I'll try my hand at helping u go to sleep.....only cuz I'm up at this unearthly time, 6:17 AM. How about a lullaby?

Rock-a-bye Straight-Up
In the tree top
When the wind blows, Straight-UP will rock

I'm kidding! I always thought lullabies were kinda eerie and creepy. Like in those scary movies, such as Rosemary's Baby. The movie starts off with a soft lullaby playing through a delightful pastel colored baby room.........and it's soo
eerie......because you develop this impending sense of doom, as if any moment now, something dreadful will happen. (Shudders)

And the Rock-a-bye Baby lullaby is creepy too. Who in their right mind would put a baby on top of a tree and wait for the wind to make it fall? Why put it up in there in the first place? Now, how on earth those disturbing words can make an kid relax are beyond me! If anything, they'd make you terrified.

Girls, please steer clear of sleep inducing otc drugs. Don’t pour these chemicals in your body. Most of the synthetic chemicals that are manufactured in plants and factories have never been tested for long-term use on humans. All of them have side effects that are more troublesome than the actual problem. Plus, they are habit forming, i.e. you’ll have to take more and more of it to have the same effect.

First and foremost are the lifestyle changes, there is no magic pill to resolve health issues. Morning exercise helps sleep better at night. Avoid eating too close to your bedtime. Shut-off or remove all stimulants ( I have switched from cordless fone to the one with the wire and from wireless router to wired router, believe me it does smake a huge difference. I dont know why other people dont feel it, I just have a hardtime focusing with all those wireless devices spitting radiations all around and through me). Keep your room spacious and uncluttered. Open windows once in a while to bring in fresh air. Few drops of lavender and/or rose pure essential oil (stress on pure) on pillows and bedcovers also has a soothing and calming effect. You can also add few drops of lavender essential oil in clay burner, to infuse the air of your room with aromatic constituents of lavender. I said few drops because less is more when it comes to essential oils. Drinking warm milk before bed also helps in better sleep. Milk has a an amino acid tryptophan, which is a precursor for hormone serotonin. The job of serotonin is to keep us calm, happy, it plays a part in bringing on natural deep sleep. More often than not, depressed and sleep less people have found to be serotonin deficient.

One natural alternative treatment for insomnia is Valeria root. Each herb has several features that make them useful for many different ailments. However, this herb has been dedicated for only one use- Insomnia. You can take it as glycerite (extracted with glycerin), or tincture (extracted with alcohol or vinegar) or capsule form (minus the unnecessary chemicals) or hot infusion (tea). My favorite way to take any herb is the hot infusion. Glycerites, tinctures, capsules are also very easy and fun to make, but tea is the simplest of all. I like simple.

This is how you make valerian root tea. Bring water up to boiling point, but don’t boil it. Take it off the stove and add 1 tsp of dried valerian root herb and immediately cover the lid. The essential oils of all herbs are highly volatile, all they want to do is escape into the air given a slightest chance, hence the lid. Steep for 10-15 minutes. You can add sweetener after steeping, because sometimes the sweetener blocks the herb from infusing into the hot water. Raw honey is the best of all sweeteners; it also has mild sedative properties.

On a related note, always use best quality, organic herbs, don’t settle for anything less. There are many stores online that sell in bulk organic, non GMO, hand – harvested and pure herbs, spices, carrier oils, essential oils, bees wax, aloevera gel, glycerites, herbal salves, oil infusions, cocoa butter, etc. I will tell you two of my favorite stores, I have never been disappointed with any products I have ordered so far. They are also very reasonably priced. And don’t get me wrong, I have no affiliation with the companies, just a satisfied customer

One last thing, don’t mix herbs with any otc or prescribed drugs. They can interact and can result in unpleasant sideeffects. If you feel any type of allergic reaction after use of any herb or herbal product, discontinue the use. Don’t exceed more than two cups of this particular tea in 24 hours. Lastly, dont experiment with herbs or herbal products if you are pregnant or nursing. There are only 4 or 5 herbs that are deemed safe and efficient for pregnant women.

Thanks Restless (what a fitting name for this thread, lol),

Appreciate the tips you've given. Trust me, I'm steering away from OTC sleep-aids for the time being. Right now, i'm using aromatherapy (lavendar) and it is soothing. I used to exercise almost every evening and that would exhaust me enough to get a good night's sleep. So, I need to get back into the exercising routine. The problem with insomnia is that I end up falling asleep after Fajr and then I wake up around 2'ish in the afternoon.....and feel too tired to exercise. But I'm planning to exercise this evening.

I've always been a night owl ever since I was a kid. Scientists say that your genes determine whether you are a night owl or an early bird. I think it's fascinating.......but these days it's getting a bit tooo far and it's taking a toll on me. So, time to make a few lifestyle changes.

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

Same here, lifestyle changes...

Restless...Im going to see if I can find that...thank you very much!

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

psq, do you even try to lie down and goto sleep? I mean if youre going to be online, that wont happen! Did you ever try the counting sheep thingie? When I was little my parents used to send me to bed at 10pm and I used to do that and surprisingly it worked!

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

I DO try. I try for about an hour and then I give up because Im not tired or weary at all. Trust me, I want to sleep. Badly!

Also, I think it has to do with other things. Like Im home these days so Im not as tired as I used to be before. Ive got to increase my activity and think about going back to work. This is boring...

Re: Im not a happy camper these days...

I tried counting sheep, but their baa-ing sounds kept getting in the way.
