"I'm an American and I'm a Muslim"

This may have been discussed previously in this Forum; if so, apologies in advance. Interesting bunch of ads released from CAIR earlier this year. They’ve apparently published some (or all) of these in the New York Times and other media outlets.

Great campaign! Luckily no paindus were picked :D

thanx Nadia...

that's disgusting.

and perhaps , i, living in britain should shake Tony Blair's hand and join the queen for Tea as they return from ther meetings in Iraq.

All part of the integration na ?

keepin up with the Kaafir as they say

eemo, being cordial and civil with someone who is a non-believer or even a non-muslim is certainly not a bad thing. After all the prophet did it.

So please, keep your mind open. If one is secure enough in their beliefs, then there should be no problem in accepting that others may not believe the same as you.

It has nothing to do with being cordial or just to the kaafir,
the issue at hand is integration.

Never did Rasool(saw) integrate his ideology with the systems of the kaafir.

The quraysh offered him keys to the kabah, women and lots of Gold and his reply was "if they offered me the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand, never will i relinquish this call"

This call, might i add, was for the banishing of their way of life, their tribalism more than anything, i.e this form of nationalism that they were holding onto.

What you are showing here is exactly the same thing, that, i being a muslim am proud to hold on to my nationalism first, and my iman second.

think about it

A 100% true incident, but you neglected the condition that they tacked on - they said that they would give him all of that only if he ceased to call for Islam.

very interesting...Islam never said to hate ppl...but to hate what some ppl might do....

Eemo, the title is "I'm an American AND I'm a muslim". The ad says that you can be both at the same time. No one is being influenced into putting nationalism OVER religion. And keep in mind. I dont know what country you live in, but I can tell you honestly as an American....there has never been an instant where I've been prohibited from my beliefs or from praying and worshipping and doing good things in this country. In fact, more often than not, a lot of the laws and values out here are more similar to Islam than what I see going on in Pakistan and many other muslim-populated countries. Therefore, in this country, integration actually MEANS being able to practice your own religion without interference and without prohibition from any institution.

Ironic, isn't it?

Why would the quraysh ask him to cease the call to islam if it didnt threaten their way of life ?
think about it.

THe quraysh new that Islam was revealed to be dominant over mankind.

It posed a threat to them and so they offered him all the worldy incentives they could to deter his call, hence Rasoll(saw) response.

Its exactly what we are seeing today from America. America being the superpower and the dominant force today is trying very hard to exercise its influence through its weapons such as the media, to deter this rise of islam.

And PCG,

Rasool(saw) those who call for as-saibiyyah, those who fight for as-sabiyyah and those who die for as-sabiyyah die a death of jahilliyah. i.e Kaafir. As-sabiyyah means any form of Nationalism, Patriotism, Tribalism etc.

And just because you can practise some aspect of Islam in a a kufr country, it doesnt in anyway way suggest that , that is islamic law.

Just because a law agrees with Islam it doesnt make it Islamic Law.
If george bush, tomorrow, was to order all the muslims to pray, it wouldnt make this islamic law.
Islamic laws have to eminate from the aqeedah of islam, not from a capitalist framework constitution.

Islam wasnt revealed to be integrated into kufr, it was revealed to destroy kufr. Please be very careful about what you say.

There is no country on earth where shariah is practised wholely based on the aqeedah of islam. Not even saudi arabia.
So just because there are certain aspect of Islam that are easier to practise in USA then pakistan is irrelevant. Both countries implement Kufr Law.

And can people stop make general statements of what islam says and doesnt say without actually referring to allah ta'ala specific address.
This is Allah's speech you are meddling with, your creator.

Thank you coOoLBreeze and PCG. :flower1:

man! The only two positive words out of ten replies. Eemo, i’m not trying to head into a discussion here about nationalism versus religion. gosh all i was hoping to do was to show that Muslim Americans come in all different types, sizes, and colours - look at the very first image i posted. Three extremely diverse individuals - yet all united by that one common bond - being Muslim.

:flower1: Please let’s not turn this thread into an argumentative one. i think you misunderstood my intention for posting up these images. Whatever the case may be, i really don’t feel right now like getting into another argument with anyone and this thread wasn’t intended for that purpose whatsoever.

:flower1: Take care :flower1:

That’s what’s exactly wrong with the ad. It should have been “I’m a Muslim and I live in America.”

Prophet Muhammad (saw), said: "The Muslim Ummah is a unique ummah among the whole of mankind: Their land is one, their War is one, their Peace is one, their Honor is one and their Trust is one."(Imam Ahmed).

We are Muslims first and Muslims to the end! These poor souls can sing the American national anthem and kiss the American flag to their hearts’ content. They should have from learnt from the treatment meted out to their fellow Muslims after 9/11? Or better ask the “American-Japanese”, what they ‘went’ through during the WWII.

They really don’t have to grovel to be accepted.

yaar meray dost who stated that they are grovelling? Have you spent time with them? Do you know any of them on a personal basis? If not, then let's leave the judging and categorizing to Allah alone.

sorry.

wasnt at all trying to make this into an argument.
i hate arguing too,....believe me, and i know it doesnt come across that way.

But when i see something like this, i feel compelled to say something.
Even if you do not reply, and u stand firm by your original post, please at least consider what i have said.

Jazakallah Khair

The groveling bit was the advertisers (CAIR), and not at the individuals posing in the pictures. I don’t know any of them. They are my brothers & sisters in Islam and I am not doubting or questioning their commitment to Islam.

I was just wondering to whom these ads address to. I don’t think that it will make any difference as in the Holy Quran is it clearly stated:

"Never will the Jews or the Christians be satisfied with thee unless thou follow their form of religion. Say: The guidance from Allah is the true guidance. Wert thou to follow their desires after the knowledge which hath come unto thee, then wouldst thou have from Allah no protecting friend nor helper." (The Holy Quran, Al-Baqarah 2:120)

“You will indeed follow the ways of those before you, hand span by hand span, and an arms length after another. Even if they enter into a lizard’s hole, you will follow them.
We asked, “Is it the Jews and the Christians” He (Sallalahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “Who else!” Al-Bukhari & Muslim

Following are the words uttered by the British foreign minister:

“As British Muslims-and their European counterparts-become more and more integrated into the fabric of our democracies, we may over time see the emergence of a distinctly European Islam” [Jack Straw, UK Foreign Secretary, Prospect Magazine, October 2002]

So we will have distinct European Islam, distinct American Islam, about 55 (number of Muslim countries) Islams, each pursuing its own national agendas.

Now where will you find Ummah of Muhammad (saw)?

So appropriately the ad should have read. “We are Muslims living (peacefully) in America”.

I agree...

And the latest 'form' of Islam is Inter-Islam related to Inter-faith beliefs...

When it is proclaimed for you to say, you to your ways and me to mine, why the interfaith ideology?

  1. What does inter-faith have anything to do with these pictures? Nothing. You guys are deliberately bent upon accusing American muslims (i.e. Muslims with American citizenship, not Muslims "grovelling to be accepted" by Americans) of treason toward Islam.

I mean, eemo and others in this thread...how many of you folks decided to live in Pakistan? Not for nationalistic reasons, but so that you could contribute to a MUSLIM society and contribute to making it an Islamic society with Islamic Law? If muslims are running away from Muslim-populated countries, the only place where Islamic law can easily be established, then why blame us American muslims for living within American society...?

Now everyone has their own idea of what it means to retain one's religion when living in an ethnically-diverse country. Maybe some of you might think I'm "integrating" and therefore giving up my religion by wearing jeans and t-shirts to school. Maybe your idea of giving up one's religion is me talking to my non-muslim neighbor cordially and inviting them over to dinner. Who decides when integration becomes "sacrificing ones religion"? Are you that authority? I dont recall the Quran telling me not to be friendly with my non-muslim neighbors and to wear only an abaya!

And another thing. I never said American Law = Islamic Law. I said its more Islamic in its nature than , for example, Saudi "Islamic Law". And since we are living with other people who are non-muslims, we must show our respect to them and we must live here peacefully among our fellow Americans. I dont think being American means giving up your religion, not when I see other muslims here practicing Islam without any hinderance. And where else would you have us live? I dont see Pakistanis wanting to go back to Pakistan, especially when chors have eaten up the country and we, like chickens, ran away. Is that what the Rasul would have done? Hmm...something to think about.

And one last thing. I see this fuss is being made ONLY over American muslims. Why not European muslims? Why not Chinese muslim, or Russian muslims, or Austrailian muslims? Why aren't they being accused of integrating? Or is integration in those countries not a crime? Its plain to see. You folks abhor America because its economically more powerful. Maybe its jealousy that moves you to say these things about your fellow muslims living in America. If China was in America's place then the jealousy would be targeted to Chinese muslims. But oh no, we say, fakhar se, that there are muslims in China. But then its shameful for you to say that there are muslims living in America.

-PCG.

Please dont insult our way of life when you yourself have not lived it AND because you are in fact, not living it.

I don’t think anybody deliberately bent upon accusing American Muslims of treason toward Islam. Do you mean to say CAIR is the ‘face’ of Islam in America? I just questioned the purpose of putting on these ads in the papers? Is not the very fact that these ads had to be put out show how insecure the ‘American Muslims’ feel?

Yes, we have our Muslim brothers & sisters in Europe, China, Russia, Australia, India etc. etc. and we are proud of them as we are of our Muslims brothers and sisters in the USA. But I have yet to see them putting out the ads as above and wave the flag for to be accepted as part and parcel of their adopted country. I have not seen any other religious community doing the same! (for example I am American and I am a Hindu/Jew/Christian).

I agree with you that given half the chance many people in Muslim countries would give ‘their right arm’ to get into USA. The reason being, that their own countries are ruled by Dictators/kings/presidents for life/corrupt to the core politicians, who are subservient to the USA. These countries are never ruled to the betterment of its people. America keeps harping about the benefits of democracy, but it’s on record that it has always supported the Dictators/kings/presidents for life/corrupt to the core politicians. If that was not the case, most of people would love to stay with their own people.

Are not just repeating what Mr. Bush often says that the world abhors America because it’s economically more powerful, and that the World is jealous of America?

Well if you follow the world events you would know that vast majority of Europeans, Russians and many nationalities dislike America for it’s attitude towards the rest of the world. The Muslim people dislike its anti-Islamic policies. (Blind &total support for Israel, Kashmir etc. etc.).
I really don’t have any reason to be jealous of my Muslim brothers and sisters in America. why should anyone be jealous? Just because they have bigger house than mine, or that they drive a bigger car than me? As a Muslim, I am not. Allah (swt) is the provider and He gives whom He wants.

But then doesn’t Allah the Exalted says in His Mighty Book:

“Know that the life of this world is nothing but play and amusement, glitter, mutual boasting and rivalry amongst yourselves in (the accumulation of) wealth and children. Just like the example of the rain and the growth it brings which brings delight to the tillers. Then it withers and you see it become yellow. Then it dries and crumbles away. But in the hereafter there is an intense punishment as well as forgiveness from Allâh and His good pleasure. And this life is nothing but a deceiving entertainment. Be foremost in seeking forgiveness from your Lord and a garden whose width is as the width of the heavens and the earth, prepared for those who believe in Allâh and His Messengers. That is the bounty of Allâh and He gives His bounty to whomsoever He pleases, and Allâh is the Possessor of great bounty and grace.”

The Messenger of Allah (saw): "If this world was equal (in value) to the wing of a fly in the sight of Allah He would never have given a sip of water to the disbeliever."

And “The world is prison for the believers and paradise for the disbelievers."

Worldly lifestyle has no criteria in Islam. It’s Taqwa and sincere adherence to Islamic values (the Islamic values as given by Quran and Sunnah) whether we like them or not that counts at the end of the day and where and how you live.

I don’t think anybody here insulted ‘your way of life’, but, just questioned the wisdom behind issuing of these posters. I am very happy and content and at ease where ever my Lord has put me on this world. I wish you well for your satisfaction for your lifestyle. But Jealous of your lifestyle? Certainly NOT.
