I recently came off dianette pills that were prescribed for my acne, its been a few months and now i have lots of dark hairs on my face (chin and cheeks) . I know im quite naturally hairy I had the odd one terminal chin hair when I was a teen and just used to pluck it every occasion and vellus hair but now this has all gone dark. I think it was because I threaded my vellus hair under my chin during taking the pill - but i never touched my neck so i don’t understand why this hair is appearing
I dont want to remove it as im worried more hair will grow. Also I’m going to meet my fiance next month (he’s been out of the country working). so i’d rather do my removal just before i go to see him. He doesnt know about my problem and I’m really worried about maintaining myself after marriage because I heard these dark hairs are permanent. I would love to get electrolysis but I cant afford it right now
The reason I put this topic in life one is because i know there are alot of immature people out there who would say euuuuuughhh thaats nasty and accuse ladies with alot of facial hair of being lazy and not grooming. A few pakistani girls were laughing at me when i was sitting on the bus (oddly its the women who are more cruel) Having facial hair for a woman is really a big taboo. I’m sure there were plenty of people who thought the same about me when i went out today in my natural state. I really would like to stay indoors but i live alone so i need to go out to buy food and stuff.
I’ve been to the GP in the past about this but they brushed it off because im asain and say lots of asian ladies have darker hair. But its definately gotten worse because of the pill.
So next time you see a hairy lady please dont be mean and talk behind her back, she could have the same problem as me.
Go to a different GP tell them that its affecting your security they should listen to you!
Save up for electrolysis too.
Dianette is usually given to people who want to slow the growth of their body hair so after coming it your body is probably having a relflex hormone surge unfortunately :(
Also as HARD as it dont ever let other people get to you.
well yeah since u have raised a point. quit laughing at ladies who apear like monkeys.being an asian their hairs are darker than other ethnic ladies.
Actually I'm not kidding, women do have hair on their faces, some more than others. And alot of women go through a hell of alot just to appear hairless.
I was giving an example about asain women - arab and meditterean are also known to have darker hair, women aswell as men.
A lot of white women could have this problem too with dark terminal hair often its because of a hormonal imbalance, i think thats the case with me because this hair grew all of a sudden within a space of months.
I know I'm hairy but I'm sure I no way resemble a monkey, even if i did I think I would be a pretty cute one.
I'm glad you read my post, I was mainly directing it at immature individuals like youself.

Yeah I hope to visit another GP after my exams, yeah but the dianette was a big mistake. I didnt research too much into it and didnt know my hair would become worse after stopping it
Either way I'm waiting for my hormones to rebalance, until they rebalance properly only then i can start removing my hair on a daily basis without the risk of it increasing
That sounds awful but inshallah it'll get better with time - I don't think a reaction like this would be permanent. I definitely recommend seeing a different GP, even its another one at the same surgery. I guess you could try threading before going to see your fiance?
How about wearing a pashmina scarf or something around your neck when you go out? At least it'll partly cover it. You could also try a hair lightening cream to make them less visible.
The thing people don't realise that encouraging women to 'maintain' themselves through waxing or threading is just going to make it worse for them. I've kind of made it my mission that everyone I know, knows about electrolysis and that there is therefore a permanent solution.
Asian women seem to have increased androgen levels and the follicles seem more sensitive to this. For some reason, hormonal imbalances and PCOS are also very prevalent which both cause excess hair.
What has happened to you may or may not have been linked to the Pill, as many women find they develop thick chin hairs in their 20's anyway.
GP's do brush it off. My sister's is very bad and to be honest, we could have pushed but we decided to deal with it ourselves. If you cannot afford electrolysis, I would definitely push your GP. Ask for an endocrinologist consultation. Explain how this hair issue is making you feel. If people can have plastic surgery on the NHS, surely you can have this issue addressed? If he/she doesn't know about electrolysis, provide information and show that transgender people quality for it, so they should make a case to the PCT for you to as well. I thought women didn't get it on the NHS, but I recently found out that someone is, so there might be a chance.
If you can make a small contribution yourself for now and afford even 15-30mins of electrolysis every few weeks, you should be able to do something about it. Perhaps get the coarsest hairs removed. Otherwise bleaching and trimming is the best option, if you plan to have electrolysis later. Removing hair on a daily basis, with or without taking the pill is going to make them stronger.
"It is not recommended ,to pluck facial hair, especially on hormonally driven areas e.g upper lip and chin. Waxing and tweezing can make it worse. Anytime you rip a hair from the follicle , blood rushes to the area. Blood supply is what nourishes the dermal papila of a hair to grow. So you are encouraging healthier hair to return in place of the one you just removed. Also blood affects the surrounding tissue as well, so it can stimulate nearby follicle to grow hairs."
I actually think all the pampering causes facial hair growth rate to increase - well at least that is why teen-aged boys shave - i.e. to encourage hair growth. There is a huge hormonal set of reasons, but best thing in that situation is to eat less meat and more organic vegetables, don't cook and eat microwave food or food kept in plastic for any long amount of time.
Don't use make-up products without first using foundation, etc
Yes I do hope for electrolysis, I really didn't know i coudl get it on the NHS, i will definately push my doctor with this. I really didnt liek the past 2 doctors who just told me that it was normal for my race.
I;m really nervous about going back home (i study away from home) to my family because they always talk (epecially my mum) about my hair and make a big deal out of it. They havent seen me in a while. I remember I started to get long vellus hair on my chin when i was at uni and i didnt even notice it unttil my mum and sister pointed it out thats when i started waxing it and removing it, so i guess that could have made it worse.
You know it doesn't effect me too much when i go out, but i do get upset when i get bad remarks from people. I think if society was more accepting of women with facial hair, it would be easier for people like me.

Oh yeah I must be ... Any statement that is attempting to blame the very thing that is the life line for beauty must be wrong ... it can't be true that - cosmetics gets you hooked, because once you do it, you'll need to keep on doing it.

Some doctor's don't even know it is possible. You need to find one that is sympathetic and open to listening to you. Be confident and armed with the right information.
Unfortunately, it's almost definitely the waxing that made it worse. It's a shame your mum and sister were not more knowledgeable and/or sympathetic but you're not alone, as I know others who have gone through the same thing of well meaning relatives making it worse.

sigh psyah, this is a complicated issue on which you clearly have very little knowledge. it is not helping to try and wrongly attribute it to being women's own fault. in fact, that is making me feel nauseous.
i agree, it's good to eat fresh food and healthy. but it's wrong to say this is linked to what these women are going through.
I don't think it has to do with meds but your hormonal imbalance ( and probably you were taking the meds for them) I would also suggest you to either wax your neck/chinn, or thread, or get laser. It is hard job keep it clean but you have no other choice.

Thanks for your post :)
If you have this condition, then I don't think they will ever be "completely balanced"; if you are thinking of laser or electrolysis, start it now. There is no used of sitting and waiting for the hormones to be balanced. Also, removing them on daily basis will not increase the hair growth.

Sorry but makeup has nothing to with facial hair growth. It is literally an issue with an hormonal imbalance. Yes, with this condition, you really have to watch your diet, go organic especially when consuming chicken and dairy products. Avoiding or reducing egg in-take. Consume lot of vegetables and fruits.
