in one of my classes…we were discussing a book…it was about an Indian woman and how she struggled to live in a changin india…well in the bookk they kinda made a deal about daughters and sons…how they kill their daughters when they are born…well my point is that in india prolly even till today pppl killed baby girls for some reason (i believe because of responsibilty, sendin her off to get married and dowry,etc) …so as we discuss these things this pakistani girl sitting behind me goes sayin that “not just in India but even till today this happens in my country too, pakistan” …she also stated that “For ppl in Pakistan they take it as an insult to have a daughter” …now ya tell me …do they relli do that in pak today???..which i know for sure that they dont…so i told her “that happened about 300-400 years back it doesnt happen today” and she sedd “it happens in rural areas” …mah teacher went on makin it a big deal sayin that “see it even happens today in pakistan!!!” 
…embarassing…i would have made a statement buh i needed good info on it…i relly want to clear it up in my next English Lit. class…please anyone has good info on it??.. these are somethings i kno >>33% of the Parliament is women, it is strictly forbidden to kill your daughter and if u do then u r sentenced to death…and obviously bout 96.75 % of pak. is muslims..and it is forbidden in Islam…i was gonn; say suttin but she sedd that she read articles on it…pisses me off…ppl already think we r terorists or suttin…lol…and HOw the hell is it an insult to have a god damn daughter???

becuz sons carry the lineage and daughters marry off into other families (nothing but a burden...jahez wahez)
my aunt found out thru ultra-sonography she was gonna have a daughter, she still made a minnat (prayer) to have a boy.

a daughter can also be a burden izzat-wise...if she runs away with some guy, marries to her will, dresses a certain way, studies too much for her own good etc etc. u cant have people pointing to your family and saying these things.

yea and cuzz of that i think mostly in sindh they do the “kill for honor” which is also strictly not allowed…ppl still do it…

to be honest i dont personally know anyone who kills daughters,
i do know it happens in china...to control the population, one child policy etc etc. most probably in remote areas in pak if it does happen I have never heard of it.
I have seen MANY MANY MANY people prefer sons over daughters though.

yes, it happens alot in china and india too...they also kill women whose husbands die,,,they did that a few months back in india and they burned the woman alive,....those are just their beliefs i think....well im going to clear up some things tommorow....thanx...

Female infanticide is not common in Pakistan - not even in villages actually.
What is more common is marrying daughters off when they're too young (before puberty), or honor killings, dometic abuse, and rape. Many other crimes which I'm forgetting, but yeah, female infanticide is not as common as it was made out to be with your teacher.
I have relatives in high school still, and they tell us how their teachers often will talk about muslims and Pakistanis without real knowledge on the topic. Its pretty sad. This indicates that we Pakistanis are not doing a good job or putting out a positive and soft image of ourselves.
We Pakistanis have always been bad at PR.

I haven't heard of baby girls being buried alive or killed when they are born, but yes, the mentality is still prevalent that having a boy is better than having a girl :(

It still happens in Pakistan, That was the main reason why edhi ppl have a cradle outside their centers, so that people can put their unwanted babies (mostly girls) in them, rather than strangling them.
all sorts of sheit happens in Pakistan , no need for covering it up because of lame , unwarranted, and in-accurate patriotism that has been handed down to you as a family asset.

and what proof do you have that it happens today…look im not juss gonna go defendin my country…i just dont like the idea about wrong info being passed…how that girl was talkin she made it look like its not a big deal and that its really common…i dont want to argue about anythin like if it does happen then fine thats juss sad ..but i really dont think it makes much sense when they make it soo strict about men n women rights n at the same time their r ppl killin daughters…
