Female infanticide
Female infanticide, the prevalent form of sex-selective infanticide is the systematic killing of girls at or soon after birth. It normally occurs when a society values male children to the point that producing a female is considered dishonorable or shameful. Female infanticide was most common in urban China during the Qing Dynasty, due to overpopulation, and the second half of the twentieth century, due to the One Child Policy that created stiff financial penalities for parents who had multiple children.
Female infanticide was an accepted practice among the Arabs before Islam. Later in ayat 8,9 of Sura At-Takwir female infanticide was prohibited:
:bism:
“And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned: (8) For what sin she was killed? (9)” However, sex selective abortion or abandonment were (and still are) more common methods of disposing of unwanted girls.
The opposite is male infanticide.

Honor Killings
Human Rights Watch defines “honor killings” as follows:
Honor crimes are acts of violence, usually murder, committed by male family members against female family members who are perceived to have brought dishonor upon the family. A woman can be targeted by her family for a variety of reasons including, refusing to enter into an arranged marriage, being the victim of a sexual assault, seeking a divorce—even from an abusive husband—or committing adultery. The mere perception that a woman has acted in a manner to bring "dishonor" to the family is sufficient to trigger an attack. [1]
As of 2004, honor killings have occurred in numerous countries, including: Bangladesh, Brazil, Ecuador, Egypt, Germany (among Muslim immigrants), India, Iran, Iraq, Italy[3], Jordan, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, Sweden (among Muslim immigrants), Turkey, Uganda and the United Kingdom (among Muslim immigrants). In Europe, honor killings have been reported within the Muslim and Sikh communities. Many cases of honor killing have been reported in Pakistan, where it is known as KaroKari; it is also reported among Sikhs in the adjacent Indian Punjab[4].
