Iftaar Potluck

Sorry if a thread like this is already out there, but Im a little confused.

We (our small community of Muslims in this town) are having a potluck iftaar on Sunday. There will be about 25-30 people. This is my first time cooking for a potluck with this many people. I know I can make appetizers for this many people, but I was hoping to make a main dish. But I am so confused as to what main dish I can make for so many people? I want to make a desi main dish, and I want it to be a meat/chicken dish. I have a feeling that most of the people will bring some pasta dish or rice dish, so I want to make sure there is something with salan as well.

I was thinking butter chicken - do you think that is ok as a potluck main dish? I am so confused! Along with that I will take an appetizer or dessert.

Re: Iftaar Potluck

I would second butter chicken, it's a popular menu item these days and people really enjoy it. Other suggestions might be keema stuffed naans (you can serve these in halves) or chapli kababs.

Could
You please give recipe for keema stuffed naans.

Butter chicken is a very popular item. It will be a hit! Any boneless chicken item is a winner!

Re: Iftaar Potluck

Or grill some chicken pieces or make fruit basket

Re: Iftaar Potluck

butter chicken, boona chicken, chicken/beef kabobs, chicken/beef skewers, chicken qeema koftay, nihari, haleem

Re: Iftaar Potluck

how about haleem or nihari

Yoghurt chicken is soo easy to make and is yummyyyy!!!

Re: Iftaar Potluck

Haleem like soup looks more appealing in the winter, I don't think it is a summertime dish. Although it sounds really delicious.

@twinklestar the keema stuffed naans were inspired from a vah re chef video on youtube I think he did a demo on how to stuff parathas and I stuffed naans using the same method. It would be more clear if you checked out the original source :)

Re: Iftaar Potluck

Haleem :k:

Re: Iftaar Potluck

Haleem, nihari or Butter chicken. All options are good as far as you have already tried anyone of them and are confident the dish will turn out well. Better to be on the safer side than experimenting.

Re: Iftaar Potluck

Yikes....Im relatively new to cooking! I havent made either of these before. I dont want to experiment that day, and then I will be known in the community as a bad cook, lol!

Thank you all for your suggestions! I didnt want to make fruit chaat, because I think 3 single guys have already said they would bring that, LOL, and I dont want to take away something easy from them.

I will probably go with the butter chicken, and maybe some pulao as well.

Re: Iftaar Potluck

And if it was me i'd go for Nihari. Trust me its very easy to make well with the shaan masala.
