I believe that one thing is crystal clear. if we place the whole universe on one side and the Prophet (saw) on the other side, Allah (swt) loves the Prophet (saw) more than the rest of the whole humanity.
So, then how would we be able to convince Allah (swt) on the day of Judgement when we have ALL the good deeds of the world but our way of life is not according to the sunnah of the Prophet (saw). Here by sunnah I don’t mean cammel riding but the things which are clearly stated / done by the prophet (saw) according to authentic sources, and are applicable to ALL times till Qayamah.
People like me, who try to find (unreasonable) excuses for not following sunnah, should remember that they can’t convince Allah of their own sunnah (way of doing things), because Allah (swt) loves the Prophet (saw)'s sunnah infinite times more than our own sunnah (way of doing anything) even if our way is inspired by the lastest fashion around.
p.s. I am not saying that I live my life completely according to sunnah, but I can’t justify my deeds infront of Allah (swt) if I intentionally decide to do anything which the Prophet (saw) clearly told me not to do and vice versa, unless it is a matter of life and death, where the Prophet (saw) himself showed flexibility.
So how flexible we should be in any matter is also decided by Allah (swt), and the Prophet (saw) (NOT ME) and ofcourse based on our “Niyyah” (intentions), but I don’t have the right to misuse the word “Niyyah”(intentions) when I clearly know I am violating a clearly stated order of the Prophet (saw), without any logical excuse.
May Allah (swt) bless us all towards the right path. Ameen!
When I don’t want to follow any sunnah because it clashes with any of my worldly desires, due to which I am able to kill the sincere voice of truth from within, than I can find a million excuses to find ifs and buts in sunnah so as to satisfy my wordly temptations.
Such ifs and buts play a key role in “delaying” any sunnah which I always wanted to follow in life (but delayed it due to wordly temptations), till death embraces me. NOW after DEATH, I plead a million times for another chance to do everything according to sunnah, but NO MORE chances for infinite infinite and INFINITE centuries.
I believe that one thing is crystal clear. if we place the whole universe on one side and the Prophet (saw) on the other side, Allah (swt) loves the Prophet (saw) more than the rest of the whole humanity.

If I can re-pharse above to this:
Allah All Mighty loved the humanity so much that he sent time to time Prophets to convey the Message of the creator and provide guidance for the same.
Believers has follow the Guideline in its ture spirit and no just inorder to follow.
One Example is, Prophet(PBUH) used swords in the wars, so can we say that using swords in the war is Sunnah and using any other weapon may be biddah and/or not according to Islam, as there is one hadees as well which says that, Heaven lies under the shadow of swords, now how should we fight and win from AK-47 with a sword?
Point to be understood is, not to make the fun of the instructions and ahadees and sunnah of Prophet (PBUH) but to follow it in its true spirit. So ifs and buts will stay and change with the passage of time ( as per development) but the guideline will remain the same...
Here by sunnah I don't mean cammel riding but the things which are clearly stated / done by the prophet (saw) according to authentic sources, and are applicable to ALL times till Qayamah.

Ifs and buts would only stay where the prophet (saw) showed flexibilty and didn't give a clear order. Like the prophet (saw) never said that you should only use swords to fight, but he clearly ordered muslim men to keep beards and muslim women to cover their heads irrespective of time and place.

regarding muslim women covering their heads irrespective of time and place... it is literally not pratical or possible.
Quran have detailed the order concerning Hijab ( Sura-e-Ahzaab), Prophet's (PBUH) order should be seen in its pre-text and shouldn't be taken and applied in all scenarios. I am not saying that certain order didn't exist but saying that it should have certain circumstances, e.g. when women goes in front of elders she should have her head covered.. or something of this kind.
A Sunnah is not merely the actions of Muhammad (SAW). It has to include the intention behind the action.
A Fard is not a Sunnah
Common practices are not part of Sunnah
Fighting with a sword therefore is not a Sunnah because it falls into the common practice of people.
Growing a beard is not a Sunnah, but keeping it trimmed to a certain look with the intention of being a means to identify oneself as a Muslim makes it a Sunnah.
Travelling by whatever means is not a Sunnah, however, doing so upon the mindset and practical guidance of the instruction of Muhammad (SAW) makes it so. Therefore, when travelling in a group have an ameer, say the du'a for embarking and meet people with salaams is all part of Sunnah.
The actions of the prophet Muhammad (SAW) that are either Wajib, or Mustahab are generally considered Sunnah, but those actions taken by him that are considered muba (neutral) are not Sunnah. Therefore brushing the teeth is a Sunnah provided the intention to brush the teeth has to be based on the idea that Muhammad (SAW) did it, but to brush with Siwak or not is a lesser matter.
Another way to detect a Sunnah is the collection of special things he used to do that others would notice and no other would do normally. People only began doing those things when they copied him (SAW). So it is not that Muhammad (SAW) did this or that, but rather the way he did it and the reason why it was being done. Any reason that caused obligation of that act it became known as Fard and not as Sunnah.
Some actions were never mandated, but became so widely practiced based on Muhammad (SAW) never missing the opportunity to do it or abstain from it, those actions became passive obligations .. or Sunnah Mo'akada or even Wajib.
Bro, I don’t think I am following your reasoning completely. Are you saying that the intention should be to perform an action because Muhammad SAW did it or for the same reasons as Muhammad SAW did it.

Who said it's literally not practical or possible....this is the weakness of our IMAN and nothing else. Alhamdulillah by the grace of Allah swt i do complete purdah(includes niqab) even from the family na-mehrams..and for sure its 100% possible.I never faced any difficulty Alhamdulillah.I stay in North America..and its not that difficult at all(atleast for some of us Alhamdulillah). It could be possible that some sisters might have to face lot of difficulties in wearing hijab or niqab..and they still remain steadfast on that .Infact i get special treatment wherever i go, they respect me so much more ..be it be at the airport, any office..anywhere Alhamdulillah. It's just not me my sisters, and many of my friends over here Alhamdulillah.
^ JazakAllah khair sister for a beautiful and Imaan refreshing post. May Allah (swt) bless you and your family with all the blessings of this life and hereafter.
@ psyah. JazakAllah khair brother for sharing your sincere views on the topic.
I am saying our intention for Sunnah should be to perform an action because Muhammad (SAW) did it, provided he (SAW) did it to serve a purpose for benefit in the Hereafter or for a benefit in the world that would lead to a benefit in the Hereafter. In which case it should also benefit us in the Hereafter.

Understood and also that it had not been done before for the same reason before. For instance, if I say siwak, is it a practice that Muhammad SAW introduced i.e. cleaning ones teeth. I do not think so but rather he emphasized it as a good habit. If I clean my teeth with tooth paste today with the same intention for cleaning my teeth because Allah SWT likes for muslims to be hygenic would you regard it as Sunnah or does it have to be with a siwak stick that would make it a Sunnah or both.

Can u cover ur head while sleeping, and there numerous occasions where head cannot be covered, thats y i said IT IS LITERALLY NOT POSSIBLE TO COVER UR HEAD ALL THE TIME IRRESPECTICE OF TIME AND PLACE... please re-read my comments

Both are Sunnah if done with the intention to copy or follow advice of Muhammad (SAW). Doing it with Siwak is more puritan, but there is nothing substantial to say either way whether it is better or worse for teeth.
The act of brushing is my feeling the stress in the action, but when it comes to literal interpretations of Sunnah are more closely linked with direct worship rather than behaviour or preparation for worship.
The argument used by non-puritans about the siwak stick is that if wanted to follow Muhammad (SAW) then we should use the actual brush he used. The argument against the people who say that siwak was the technology of the time relating to brushing teeth, the problem there lies with the hadith that relate to some people searching for a special kind of tree.

Of course we don’t. The topic starter never said anything about worshipping anyone else, but from your posts I deduce that you yourself are not Muslim. I thought this was generally well known amongst non-Muslims, that Muslims only worship one Allah and nobody else (including prophets, angels or any other creation).

I know what the "offical" view is, but how can one possibly say that the prophet is loved more than all of humanity combined? The whole universe even? The official view on worshipping none other than Allah is usurped all the time with ridiculous statements such as this. I am surprised that people just let it slide as if it is the truth.
let us not question the status of someone for whom this world was made, and who is considered by all muslims a king of the universe,** made by Allah.**
Let us not deduce negative meanings (worshiping,...etc.) from simple and clear statements.
p.s. Just wanted to add one more point which I should have added earlier. This thread is only for "Believing Muslims". Any non-muslim reading this, kindly don't give your services here about the status of the Prophet (saw). Such harsh times haven't yet come on us muslims that we need to learn and understand the status of the prophets from non-muslims.
You evidently need to learn it from somewhere if you think God made the universe for one man. If you think he was king of the universe or loved by God more than all of humanity.
I may not be Muslim, but I know enough to say that it is not an Islamic belief. I don't know what word you'd want to use other than worship since "worship" is forbidden, but what else could one deduce from such beatifying statements?
