Nothing wrong with asserting identity and clarifying that you are different. I think Reha was talking more about the offence or hate part of it. Why to hate/or be offended if someone makes an innocent mistake about background? Most likely that non-Pakistani/Indian person does not know the nature or background of the issues. It’s like how most people can make mistake of origin of a white person. Also what of the people who were living in their regions/areas whether on one side of border or another for 1000s of years (not saying it was all united as a whole) then they moved in last 60 years. Some may feel affinity to the place they left behind. Others may not obviously as Pakistan is quite diverse. Also patriotism cannot be just decided on colour of passport, can it? Many Pakistanis living abroad are very passionate about Pakistan and then there can be Pakistanis, maybe a smaller number, who despite living in Pakistan feel some affinity for those across the border. Aise ho sakta hai. I’m not making any definitive statements.
