If your mom was uncomfortable with a rishta, and didn’t want it to move forward, or she wants to cancel/break an engagement/baat pakki/whatever, would you give in and just end it for the sake of keeping your parents happy?
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
It really depends on what is the reason
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
Depends on the reason. Mom is just one member of the family, you can get the input from other family members...and see how they feel...how the majority feels. It need not be that you should resign to one person's opinion. Discuss it with the family and see how it goes.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
i would NOT commit to a girl unless i've checked with my parents and sought their approval first. once i've committed to her, i would honor my words no matter what.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
I would give up. Why?
Because later on, there is going to be problem, even if mom agrees under pressure.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
Usually mom is just an excuse, its the guy who wants to back off.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
Difficut question, Depends on the reason.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
Depends on the reason and how much you like them..
Some mums will say no to more or less anyone they haven't picked and that can get ridiculous..
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
As RV said....the discussion has to be with whole family members..not just mom.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
We eloped, best decision of my life, family is starting to come around after 15 yrs, mom lived with us till the end and my wife was nicer to her than anyone of her own daughters. I didn't compel her to but I told her that the family hasn't even accepted her so she owes them nothing but she has a very loving heart and did the khidmat out of purity of her heart like cooking, bathing, cleaning all body fluids ect and also looking after her emotional needs.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
Yes
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
That would depend on so many things like the trust level you have with your parents making you go with what they think is the best for you! Also the reasoning being given to you. It can't be a simple yes, I wl do whatever they tell me to.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
Well, there can be a very serious conflict in such a case.
Lets say,
Your Mom refuses
but
Your dog approves?
Then what to do? ![]()
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
What if it's the girl's mom?
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
I was in a situation afterwards where both set of parents ranged from being rather uninterested to being openly hostile, no one was really supportive. It was a religion/sect thing, her side kept raising the bar of what I was expected to do. While eloping was an option, both of us did not want a life where we would either not feel welcome in others' family or the two families would not be interacting with each other. It was a tough call, but we parted ways.
So however tough it is, if one thing does not work out, moving on sooner rather than later is good and making yourself available to meet other people is in the individual's best interest. In the end there are many factors, is this a small issue..how tough would it be if you went ahead, how would married life and broader family life be, how close are you to the family and how exposed will your spouse be to the family disapproval in daily life. many things to consider.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
Mothers do know their children better than anyone else...for the most part.
it is one thing to listen to mother 'before marriage' but not the same 'after marriage'.
There are gullible men who listen to their mothers and destroy their married lives for the senseless love of their mothers. Fortunately those men are not in majority.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
if its only a potential rishta i would not care if my mom says no.
but if she wants to end the engagement or baat pakki, then there has to be some valid reason behind it( since my mom is very sensible mature person who would not pick on petty things to finish a daughter's or son's engagement) so again i would not argue with her.
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
maybe
Re: If your Mom said no to your rishta
70% of the women will end it.
80% of the men will not.
