would you have been Muslim?
I.e. do you think our beliefs are a direct result of being born in a Muslim household?

Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
alHamdolillah that i was born a Muslim and am totally satisfied with my religion.
would i have been a Muslim otherwise as you put it, most likely YES because i would NOT have been satisfied and would have looked for the truth elsewhere as well as researching my own.
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
Somebody has already opened a similar thread a couple of weeks ago. I hope I would have converted to Islam.
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
Interesting question Shakeela ![]()
Ok, this is probably not going to be the popular answer, but…had I not been born into a Muslim home, I don’t know if I would be Muslim or not…What if I had born into a Hasidic Jewish family in some insulated corner neighborhood..what are the chances that I’d be exposed to Islam?
Or what if I was born to total atheist parents who lived on a commune in the Mojave desert?
I don’t know that anyone can say for sure…I can just be thankful for the life that I DO have
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
Why would that be an unpopular answer? In the scenarios you have described the kid would have had Zero access to information about Islam. So obviously you could not have converted then.
Having said that, this is a hypothetical question and I agree with khatti: Be thankful for the life you DO have.
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
I would've been an agnostic...more likely leaning towards agnostic theism.
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
Btw a disclaimer, this is a hypothetical question lest anyone gets offended.
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
We are Muslims by birth this is why we dont always appreciate its depth.
I hope I would have converted. At the very least I would have been a better muslim. :)

Probably not. You would be satisfied in whatever religion you would be born into.

Bingo

Not necessarily.
This is generalization to think everyone would have been satisfied.
**
The common reality is that people do have questions on their own religions.** *Whether they show it or not!
*
Those who find the satisfying answer to their question with searching, stay with their religions.
Those who do not:
1- Either stay without satisfaction and continue with their lives in confusion.
OR
2- If find other religion more satisfying and have strong conviction,...convert.
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
I gave answer in the thread what Umer pointed out in Philosophy forum:
And that is;
"I do not know".
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
surprisingly i agree with diwana a lot in this forum. ![]()
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
I think i was not strong enough to be tested like this, so ALLAH gave me the easy option of born muslim. Even now it is tough for me due to my nafs to please and obey ALLAH.
Those who are non muslim are in bigger test, to accept the truth and to apply it.
Alhumdolilah ala kulle halin

I was wondering what you meant in the portion of your post I quoted about non - Muslims.

I wouldn't say religion, I would say a belief. There are people who believe in no religion and no god [Atheists], No religion but believe in a God Deists ], Unsure of religion and god Agnostics] and many more.
Re: If you had not been born in a Muslim home
I would probably be brought up thinking my parents religion was correct. Would I convert to Islam? That would depend on if Allah wanted me too or not.

To me there is only one acceptable way to reach paradise. and that is by accepting the teaching of islam. What we believe is that every one is given equal chances, you being more competent and capable of becoming more closer friend of ALLAH participate in the race from start, we being weaker just given a beneft of few extra yards.
