I found what I had read on the subject before, yes it has been a practice in the past and its called Polyandry.

This is another problem as she cannot be 'productive' all the times. With monthly emotional changes and pregnancy and post delivery breaks, it will be very hard for her to manage work and responsibilities. At least we cannot make it a domestic requirement for every household.
a) With so many men working, she can easily afford maids.
b) If all husbands know their responsibilities, and maids are there to take care of the stuff she can't do, then we won't have any problems.
What can happen is that the woman has the control to run the household smoothly, including the money that is coming in. Imagine a grandmother. They usually have the control of the household and finances.

Nah, you just pit the MIL's against each other, and they weed themselves out of the gene pool by natural selection.
In fact, the very reason women cannot have multiple husbands is probably so that the evil MIL cannot be weeded out and is forever a bane on humanity until Judgement day.
