...because our lovely terrorists have turned them into a major security threat. Who knows what or who is under that Abaya!
There is a constant tug of war between liberty and security. If we start giving up our liberties in the name of security, we have already lost to those terrorists.

True. But what would you rather have? Are you willing to put your and others' lives in danger? No right or wrong answer. Just depends on what you consider more important. I would rather be safe than put everyone's life in danger in the name of freedom. Freedom is costly. I love my freedom but I would rather go through 10 TSA security scans than be bombed anyday!

And that is fine. Next they want to know where you go and why? Then they want to know what you bought, who you met, what you talked about, whom you paid and for what. All in the name of security. It is a slippery slope. Liberty dies, not with a bang, but a whimper.
Liberty and security are both costly, but if you use to one to pay of the other, soon we will be left with neither.

Indeed. We must draw the line somewhere but where depends on your comfort level. This is why it's an issue.
Probably more deaths are related to women revealing more than women covering up … Where as the abaya is merely a threat of terrorists … the opposite is a sure hazard.
Note: I meant the above in the sense of it being very revealing … by the way … not just walking around without a head scarf.
^ That's like saying women who wear revealing clothing are asking to be raped. -____- Very heee different! In this case, it's not the actual women doing the deed. Are they a distraction? Yes, absolutely but it's different than a bomber/shooter under an abaya. In those cases, it's the person under the abaya doing the deed.

So it's okay to be lethally distracting so long as you don't intend it and for those extremely rare cases where terrorists go about in abayas that ruins it for all those women who want to exercise their freedom to cover up?
And it is not like that at all ... One does not blame the pedestrian for the crash in a court of law, but one does attribute trends to crashes relating to such a phenomenon. It is not the same thing at all ... But to be honest women who wear revealing clothing are doing that to create attention that goes in their direction.
I think those who have argued against it don't care because it does not affect them ... Alcohol is the biggest killer in the world and they won't outlaw that either because it affects them ... It's not about liberties - it's about liberties for a select people ...
^o Bhai, all I am saying is that your comparison is unfair. Both are dangerous but for different reasons. People with ill intentions can do a lot of sh!t with the help of abayas. A woman wearing revealing clothing is provoking a reaction from others but does not do much herself. There are laws in every country that as a citizen you must be identified!
I am not all against abayas. As a matter of fact, it should be a choice. Women should be able to wear whatever the hell they want, but you cannot deny that it is a very useful disguise for someone who wants to commit a crime. That is a pretty big reason to feel uncomfortable with letting anyone come and go as they please without being identified.
I don't know why I am even arguing this point.
P.S. I agree with you about alcohol. I cannot believe why alcohol is legal while Marijuana is not. That is beyond me!
Legalize Marijuana. Its happening anyway. Not sure women are prevented from wearing anything they want. To best of my understanding they r simply required to identify themselves. Didn't know if that is too much to ask.
It would be nice if those protesting this non issue would show the same enthusiasm for protesting govts deciding who can call themselves Muslims or Hindus or whatever. But no. Most of the protesters on the abhaya issue seem to have no problems with above. Double standards?
From the experience I've had discussing (or arguing) with people on the topic, they simply don't seem to understand what freedom means. They think a woman who wears something revealing by choice is exercising freedom but one who covers by choice isn't.
Chalk that up to simple misrepresentation. As Bella's post 4 succinctly States it is the woman's choice. And I would add - to wear whatever she wants, within the law.
It is only when women are FORCED to wear attire based on someones religious interpretation that progressives cry foul. Unfortunately, that is mischaracterized, deliberately for the most part.

terrorists have used shoes too as bomb...should we stop wearing shoes as well?
it's security people's job to check if someone carries a bomb...let them do their job, let us do what is required of us by our religion....fair?
Is anyone bring stopped from wearing an abhaya if tgeey agree to being searched. That is - a pat down, uncovering of face so security can check face vs photo? They is the key question.n

sure, a female officer can do that in private cubicles. it is done at all Indian Airports.

Lame argument.........terrorist use motor cars and trucks and pressure cookers............no one has banned any of these items...........I think the Frenchies are threatened by Modesty!
