first thread here …just joined a few days back..dis is like the most helpful place i came across as far as wedding planning is concerned..so i really need help ppl..
i have very little time ..n m also having my sendup exams next week :(( they got delayed due to the institutions closing down coz of the bad situation in pak these days.. n so my sendup dates clashed exactly wid the day of my engagement and before ..
i really need ideas about serving mithai at the time of engagement..not talkin abt the favor boxes of sweet treats tht go to the groom’s side after engagement ..as in serving them to all the guests present at that time .. any creative ideas yet moderately priced ideas ?
n do nirala make customized packages of mithai? n how much wud they approx cost ? its just tht i m havin an engagement n then a full fledged big nikkah function ..n by the time of my barat my parents wud be drained out totally..so m tryin to go for little things that wont take much effort as i dont have much time and also wudnt cost a friggin mint of money …

You could get a lot different boxes designed and then get them filled with mithai of your choice... The usual ones at the different mithai shops are usually gaudy... Get them designed and made as per your specs
yea thnkz hfarhan76 :) ..i was thinkin on getting them designed myself..but what about the mithai tht would be served at tht time to the guests by my sister n the girls. thaals, trays or wot ? know of ny good place to get such stuff in lahore at a reasonable price ?
On my engagement which was small thing at home with intimate family and friends. My sisters used Charger plates since they are so huge and we found them in Gold and decorated that with mitthai and rose petals. We used it for rasam and for some reason its not showing up i will try attaching in a bit.
If you are trying to avoid the favors type look. Order bite size mithai if you can. Get nice round looking silver trays & set up the individual pieces on top of each other in a tier. Make sure you place a wax paper on the tray first. It’ll have a more clean look & no sheera drops that way. You can even do this the night before your engagement & cover it with plastic wrap so the mithai doesn’t get dry.
If you have more than one sister. Get another nice looking silver tray. Creatively fill it with colored napkins( maybe match your outfit) & colored toothpicks. One person holds the tray & offers mithai & the other person can help with a napkin & toothpick to grab mithai from.
Or you could also get bite sized mithai but in place it in a larger tray & fill individual pieces with toothpick & just offer them with a colored napkin.
This was for a baby shower we did.
Don’t know how practical the two people serving part is but see if it suits you. When you individually serve guests at any gathering it just makes them feel more special. Another way of thanking them to be a part of your happiness.
n yea i agree..individually serving them is nice..the favor boxes eventually would go to their places anyway ..but doing it right there and then would also look nice !
some people are diet consicious,some people do not like desi methais thats
why i like the given idea very much u can replace mehndi plate with desi methaees as well b coz methaees r the real beauty of wedding celebrations.I found this pic on GS forum it was posted in bridal pics thread…

@TK & Pygmy puff...thnkz ppl ..n yea Pygmy i agree wid u ..m thinking of also adding assorted chocolates n other stuff along wid the mithai for the kids n well for the ppl who dont like mithai much ..n the pic u posted is SO cute ...
yea m in pakistan..in lhr ..i wish had more time to actually come up with different ideas or go lookin at different places for creative stuff ..but i hav a jam packed schedule...continuous papers .. n ur ideas r savin me from all the brainstormin

Nahi. Tootay gi nahi. Reason because you are gonna be serving bite sized. A bite size gulab jamun for example is almost 3/4 smaller in size than a regular round one. The weight will be just enough for the tooth pick to hold on to. Also when you prick the tooth pick in don't put it all the way in. Just a little less than half way.
And do let the mithai wala know that this is what you plan to do with the mithai so he probably won't make the mithai too soft either. I have had mithai sometimes that its just too soft that it breaks in your hand after one bite. If the mithai is something like that then this idea won't work. I have done this thing 4 times so far including my own mayoun. We didn't have any problems with the mithai breaking.
