I’ve noticed there’s a dearth of chunri outfit pictures here, as well as on the web. I figured Nomi Ansari or Faiza Samee would have some inspiring chunri collections (since color is their forte) but haven’t come across any.
So I need some style input from you guys for a mehndi outfit (I’m not the bride). I’m not a fan of flimsy, thin material for an entire ensemble, (I like to mix and match fabric) and am at a loss as to what to get made. I know chunri comes in chiffon and silk - not sure what to get. The shirt will probably be parrot green, bottom hot pink and dupatta yellow (not decided). Yes, I plan to look like a gola ganda.
So how would you design it? Long kameez with chooridar, short kameez with shalwar? Have you seen chunri done in the currently in frock/flair style? Is chunri ever paired with another fabric - banarsi jamawar perhaps? Kaam includes beads/sequins/stones on the neckline in a thick, nefertiti type border, with the same kaam on the ankle cuffs. My concern is whether chiffon is too thin and won’t fall properly with a 3 inch ankle border on trousers.
Sorry for rambling on, any ideas/pictures off the tops of your heads will be appreciated. Also any suggestions as to whether I should ditch the chunri and pick another fabric. Thank you!
My mehndi suit was chunri (silk). The shirt was plain yellow silk with chunri fabric only at the sleeves. The entire sharara and dupatta had chunri, fading from yellow to red to rust. There was kamdani throughout and just a gota border. I really love that suit. It looked very pretty.
^ Yeah, I think I saw a picture of it on a thread somewhere? Or it was your wedding lengha I remember - the colors were pretty. Thanks for the input Sahar. Feel free to delete this thread, the response has been overwhelming :p .
Thanks for pitching in ladies, I really appreciate it.
Sahar - yeah, I thought of HDDCS. I agree, chunri saris and chunri lenghas look really good, or a chunri duppata on a raw silk suit or other fabric like this :
I haven’t found any kameez styles that stand out though.
Shennai Heels - you’re a doll. I searched those threads before posting this b/c I didn’t want to waste people’s time. But I went through them again and found this link which I seemed to have missed. It was very helpful, I wish the pics could be enlarged : http://www.thesaturdaypost.com/pr_120_kamehndi.html
Tahira Syed looks stunning.
This is one picture I liked on the bandhani thread, is this silk chunri? : http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/66549/Chunri1outfit.jpg
Her tight churidar has multiple applique borders, something I wanted to do on trousers (but I don’t think trousers made of chunri silk/chiffon is a good idea).
