ICCCT Semifinal 2- Pakistan vs. West Indies

^ Done.

LoL, Faisal and I were tinkering with the titles at the same time :hehe:

inshallah Pakistan will win

:jhanda:

WI has only left handers in the top order... Perhaps bringing on Malik early to spin the ball away and make them hit against the spin can be a effective strategy?

Sami and Rana should try bowling around the wicket to Gayle and Hinds who love any sort of width. We need to cramp them for space and don't give them nothing to drive.

These guys don't move their feet much play on the up and are vunerable to the ball moving away from them.

If they get passed the oppening spells, definetly worth bringing on Malik early. Giles has troubled Gayle and most of their batsmen all summer.

Sarwan is probably their best player, need to get him early he is particularly good against spinners using his feet and hitting over the top.

We all know what Chanderpaul and Lara are capable of. I think we need bowl a tight line and length against just backward of good length. Similar to how Shoiab Ahktar got Yuvraj and Kaif out.

But once you get past Bravo I think their lower order is their for the taking, and Sami and Co should be too much for them.

I think Afridi and Malik could be key at the Rose bowl, It will take spin and Westindies are not traditionally good at playing spin.

shouldn't be hard game for Pakistan - i think realistically Dillion can swing the ball which can give young guns like Farhat and Yasir trouble - however in the end - Pakistan's bowling strength is way too strong for West Indies.

i am going with a landslide win for Pakistan here if the side elects to bowl first.

Pakistan fields first and unleashes Malik and Afridi against them, we will be in the finals. Inshallah.

Is Dillon playing? I thought he was injured, or was it one game injury only?

So who will win the toss?

i jus spoke to a bookmaker in UK, if the results gets like that, then match is fixed. Jus remember where u saw it first. Infact i have my bettin too, 100 up for pak.

:hehe:

^ yaar aap final ka result bhee post kar den taake mai aaraam se so jaaon :)

Insha allah Pakistan will win :k:

According to the article in CricInfo, toss is very critical. Team winning the toss has a 27-3 record between Pak and WI. Plus, lately West Indies has gotten a reputation of chasing very well.

So, all in all, it should be a cracking match.

Pitch worry for Pakistan

Coach Bob Woolmer is confident Pakistan will not let their joy at beating India ruin their chances against West Indies in the Champions Trophy semi-final.

Three days after a three-wicket win over their arch-rivals, they face West Indies at the Rose Bowl.

“After games like that there is a tendency to come off the boil but we’ll have to heat them up,” said Woolmer.

“The players have the ethic of trying to get better every day so they’ll be well tuned-in for this match.”

West Indies are at the end of a tour which, apart from a brief break at home after the Test series against England, that has lasted three months.

But they are in an upbeat mood after gaining a semi-final place with a five-wicket win over South Africa.

Captain Brian Lara has called for a renewed effort from his side to take them into the final.

West Indies hope Merv Dillon will be fit enough to play

“We’ve got a break after this and what we’d like to do is end on a high,” he said.

"It’s been a very long summer - we suffered a lot during the Test series, although we got to the one-day [NatWest Series] finals.

“It would be really nice if we could get one step further and get to the ICC final.”

Pakistan are at full strength, with batsman Yousuf Youhana recovered from cramps which afflictaed him in the later stages of his match-winning innings against India.

West Indies still have doubts over veteran bowler Merv Dillon, who missed the last match with a shoulder injury.

“He’s getting better,” said Lara.

“The physiotherapist is going to try to get everybody as close as possible to full fitness.”

The Rose Bowl wicket, which has favoured bowlers for much of the tournament, could be a signifcant factor in the outcome.

And West Indies have the advantage of having already played at the venue, beating Bangladesh last week.

PAKISTAN v WEST INDIES ODIs
Played: 98
Pakistan wins: 36
West Indies wins: 60
Ties: 2

After looking at the pitch, Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was unimpressed.

“It is not a good one-day wicket. In my opinion it is a difficult track,” he said.

Coach Bob Woolmer added: “Anyone who’s played here will have an advantage. It’s very different to Edgbaston, so we’ll have to concentrate hard.”

Pakistan and West Indies have not faced each other since February 2002, when Pakistan won a one-day series played on neutral territory in Sharjah 2-1.

And they have had the upper hand in 13 matches since the two sides last met in England during the 1999 World Cup, winning nine of them.

Well from what i've seen from Gayle for a while now is that he don't like to drive the ball since his lack of feet movement doesn't give him the position to hit through the line of the ball ...... so bowling across him but on a lenght where he has to drive NOT CUT OR PULL would be effective ..... Same goes for Hinds .....

Lara and Chanderpaul r like Ballet-dancers (right Spellings??) ..... they need more SHORT OF A LENGHT stuff ..... because they drive the ball very well ...... especially Razzaq couldbe effective bcoz of lack of pace which could trouble the timing of Lara and Chands which is their major weapon against pace

Sarwan likes to pull like Vaughan so anything short he'll go after it ...... i guess he may fall to Shoaib if he gets a bowl like Yuvraj yesterday ......

Powell is WI-Version of Afridi ......

Most of the WI-Batsmen (except of Lara and Chanderpaul) go hard at the ball so Spin may bring their downfall ......

Insha'Allah Pakistan will win

Good Luck to Pakistan. Inshallah they will beat West Indies and reach the final :jhanda:

West Indies are a good side with spinners - but if Pakistan gets 3 or 4 quick wickets(of Chris, Lara and Chanderpaul) in first 15 overs - Afridi and Malik will take care of things - plus i don't know how the pitch turns out to be - so i guess you can't say fielding first will be fine unless the pitch favors you.

anyone knows what is weather forecost for tomorrow. Thanks!!

As much as I want Paksitan to win tomorrow, I'm just gonna die if it's a final between England and Pakistan faints

Now that I'm a moderator of a Pakistani board, I have to act like a Pakistani na faints again

So who are you going to support. :whistling

Cloudy with a few showers. High around 65F. Winds W at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

Whichever team is looking hotter on the day :stuck_out_tongue:

No, it’s gorra be England … but I’ll have to pretend I’m neutral or my family won’t allow me to watch the match with them :bummer:

I’ll just let out a few screams when England win the match (which they surely will :amooth: ). They really are on top form these days.
