ICC announced 8 best umpires of the WC2003. All these umpires will have some part to play in the coming semifinals and final.
They are:
Steve Bucknor - WI
David Shepherd - Eng
Rudi Koertzen - SA
Daryl Harper - Aus
Billy Bowden - NZ
Asoka DeSilva - SL
Simon Taufel - Aus
Aleem Dar - Pak
David Richardson, ICC General Manager-Cricket said: "These appointments reflect the consistently high standards of decision making and match management achieved over the course of the tournament.
“All officials have been assessed on a match-by-match basis, and the eight umpires selected for the finals are the men who have performed best in the opinion of the captains, match referees and the ICC.”

Ashoka was reasonable in this worldcup...
and yes i agree about that Venkat part. It high time ICC realize that guy is getting older and preoccupied.
England’s David Shepherd has been chosen to umpire the first World Cup semi-final between Australia and Sri Lanka.
Shepherd, 62, has stood in 125 one-day internationals including the 1996 and 1999 World Cup finals, and 69 Test matches.
He will officate in Port Elizabeth with South Africa’s Rudi Koertzen, who is not a member of the International Cricket Council’s elite eight-man umpiring panel, with Billy Bowden of New Zealand filling the third umpire’s role.
Steve Bucknor of the West Indies and Australian Daryl Harper have been chosen for the second semi-final involving India and Kenya, with Harper’s compatriot Simon Taufel dealing with TV replay rulings.
“These appointments reflect the consistently high standards of decision making and match management achieved over the course of the tournament,” said International Cricket Council General Manager Dave Richardson.
“All officials have been assessed on a match-by-match basis, and the eight umpires selected for the finals are the men who have performed best in the opinion of the captains, match referees and the ICC.”
The umpires for next Sunday’s final will be selected following the India v Kenya match.
One thing that came out of the WC that was good for Pakistan was Aleem Dar, he looks to be a decent umpire and hasn't given any bad decisions as of now.
Billy Bowden of New Zealand promoted to Elite Umpire status. I've heard a total of three umpires have been included to the list that was announced last year. Does anyone know the other two?
the umpires on the elite panel of icc are:
Steve Bucknor (WIS),
Asoka de Silva (SRI)
Daryl Harper (AUS)
Rudi Koertzen (RSA)
Dave Orchard (RSA)
David Shepherd (ENG)
Russell Tiffin (ZIM)
Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan (IND)
Darrell Hair (AUS)
Simon Taufel (AUS)
Billy Bowden (NZL)
how come Darrel Hair was promoted :hoonh: This guy is full of controversies and famous for making bad decisions. And Aleem Dar should have been there buti mainly because he is new to the scene, they cant promote him after one tournament. But i think there shuold be demotions as well from that panel. One of them should definelty be ‘you know who’ and also that Asoka de Silva guy. Tho still he had a good worldcup but he is full of blunders :smack:
